RE: Million Dollar Transfer
I'm wondering what the motivation is behind this. Other than just trying to get a top talent QB for EMU. I can't believe Williams would come to EMU for $1 Million for 1 year.

But in thinking about it, maybe this is Game Above sticking it to the NCAA and blatantly saying, "Hey Mark Emmert...get off your ass and do something to set some guidelines for this transfer portal debacle or this is the kind of thing you will start seeing all the time."

Although if Williams did come to EMU, the Eagles would likely blow football attendance records out of the water....

I'm thinking like Cidberit above that this has several elements (in NO particular order):

1). There is the PR value. It puts EMU FB out there as a player. It suggests that EMU is committed to winning in FB.

2). It is almost like a legal test case where someone does something to get the case in the legal system for adjudication typically for some particular motivation.

3). Perhaps, a tertiary purpose to highlight that we are recruiting for the starting QB position.

Charlie Batch is just doing above the table what the SEC has been doing under the table for years.

How much for a really good DE or DT? LB? If Hutchinson hadn't announced for the NFL draft, I'd say he's also worth 500k. LoL. Hey its not my money.

BTW, I consider this more of a PR activity, but that said, until I see C.C. following Williams on Twitter I'm not going to take it with much more than a grain or two of salt.

This. And he almost certainly knows that Caleb Williams won’t take it. All marketing. It’s showing other players that GameAbove will shell out money to get good players to come here. And like you said, SEC schools have done it under the table forever.

Sam, I agree 100%. It is one thing to 'throw money at a problem.' It is another to use money as 'seed' money and with good marketing try to maximize the return on investment.

That is certainly what GA and EMU did with George Gervin day. They turned a gift into a mega event and did everything humanly possible to get maximal benefit.

They are investing the money into the Gervin Center but also really made a newsworthy event.

How do I know it? Just look at the chatter on this forum about the Gervin Center and the number of students who showed up for the game...

RE: Million Dollar Transfer
Might add a couple examples of schools which got huge boosts from benefactors:

1). OSU. OKLAhoma State. T. Boone Pickens.

2). Oregon. It is no surprise that the NCAA T&F is held in Eugene Oregon. Think Phil Knight. Think Nike.

I think those are two schools which got huge transformational gifts.

RE: Million Dollar Transfer
Ok so I think we can all say that we are not going to get Caleb Williams however with a million dollars I am positive we could get a great quarterback. Most likely if GameAbove is willing to open that million dollars to other quarterbacks I think Cameron Ward or Braxton Burmeister would be the most likely targets.

Also isn't funny that if a player comes here for a million dollars that that player would be paid more than anyone on the coaching staff.

RE: Million Dollar Transfer
If we want to play this game, Michigan (the New York Yankees of college athletics) would just simply buy their entire team and dominate forever. Is this what people want? If college football turns into a bidding war, EMU would be going to war with a BB gun.

Yeah. Everyone knows schools have been doing it forever (mostly in the south) but instead of joining in, we should try to fix it. Instead, now it is out in the open and on a much larger scale. Many of the players are not actual students in any conventional sense. But it won't get fixed-- it will get worse, primarily because people are greedy and "fans," most of whom have no connection to the university don't care about fairness or academics. Beer bellied SEC fan and Walmart Wolverine, I'm looking at you.

I mean TAMU is using alumni driven shell companies.

I'm not letting this turn into another debate if players should have the ability to get additional compensation. We've been there and done that.

I want to get hass and steven bird to endorse shows i book - someone get me their numbers.
