When are the new teams joining?
Any updates whether we're joining in 2023 or 2024?

BYU I think is 2023, the other 3 yet to be determined. My guess is 23

RE: When are the new teams joining?
I’m really looking forward to the eclectic mix that the new Big 12 offers:
Kansas and Iowa St have been together continuously since 1907, and K State has been with them since 1913. Oklahoma St (re)-joined the fray in 1958.
Baylor and TCU were together from 1923-1996. Tech was there from 1956-1996 and Houston from 1973-1996.
K St, Kansas, Iowa St, Oklahoma St, Baylor, and Tech have all been a unit since 1996.
Houston and Cincinnati are now conference together for the 4th time—a brief stint in the MVC, C-USA, Big East/AAC, and now Big 12.

Yep, BYU and UCF are the only real newbies, but I’m sure some rivalries will be developed.

BYU and TCU have some history from the old WAC, prior to the MWC spin off and then again in the MWC prior to the departures there. So this will be the 3rd time since the late 90s that TCU and BYU have shared a conference.

Didn't OK come out and say that they wouldn't be able to afford to pay the early exit fee and would be staying until 2025. Like everyone else, I am of the opinion this was a ploy to get the conference to drop the price to leave early.

I think that was just a rumor and not confirmed but I could be wrong.

That was a joke statement trying to increase donations.
UT and OU will pay whatever it takes to jump to the SEC in 2023...as ESPN wants them BADLY (won't have to "share" UT or OU with FOX anymore).
All conf movement will be known by June 30, 2022...and maybe after the AD's Spring Meetings when they get reports back from their network partners.

Let's hope OU & Texas bail early. It would save the "New" Big 12 from transitioning twice. Being lame ducks cannot be fun for the OU & Texas athletes. The athletes themselves are blameless.

Yeah, hopefully they pay as much money as possible too, maybe ESPN can even bail them out. I wouldn’t mind seeing UCF play them for a couple seasons though.

I agree. TX & OK had some reasonable expectation of the short-term costs of making this move and had the SEC and ESPN in a smoke filled room before consummating the deal. My guess is the moves occur July 1, 2023.
If so, I expect a re-worked Big 12 TV deal around that time too, for better or worse.

I imagine the ESPN 1/2 of TV is easy fix. They simply pay the same as now and OLK/TX shares get paid out 4 ways. Legacy teams keep same money as now through 2025. Working out the other 1/2 would be the hold up.

I'm wondering when the news will break on the exact exit fee figures. It should be soon, no?

Still in negotiations.
Doesn't sound like the 2 sides are close to a deal. Last we heard Aresco wants $45M total exit. The exiting teams have hinted towards $20M total exit as their number. The precedent set by UConn was $15M. Who knows what the final number will be...
As far as timeline for exit agreement. We are already behind schedule. First we heard be end of Spring 2022 which just passed. We heard they had a meeting a week or 2 ago that didn't end with a final agreement.
So all we hear is that things are amicable and an agreement will come soon.
I'd personally be surprised if this dragged all the way to AAC media days. I doubt they want to advertise the 2022 season with that dark cloud looming over the conference. The media will have a frenzy of questions about the exit negotiation instead of the football season.
So End of July / Early August is my best guess.

That would be the latest, I would think. They had talked about late May, don't think that gets done. I expect early July is best bet. The original ask of 45 mil was same the conf did with UConn, I expect it to be 17 to 20 mil at the end of the day. Close to UConn deal but likely a bit higher. 21 to 30 mil extra pumped into the legacy schools which don't lose any money for at least 9 years is a pretty solid bonus. No one on either side really wishes to slow the transition time.

I can't imagine Aresco holding anywhere close to that 45 million dollar figure. He's got to want to get this done too. Not only would it hurt his own conferences perception by holding the 3 teams another year, but it also stalls the growth of his incoming teams.
I'd be surprised if he lets this overshadow his football media days too.
