2022 Football Schedule?
With Marshall, ODU, and Southern Miss likely joining the Sunbelt in July 2022. How does this impact the east and west divisions? How does this impact the 2022 football schedule with an 11 team conference?

RE: 2022 Football Schedule?
This is a perfect chance for Judy to earn praise for being on top of things. If she's sitting on her can and waits until the announcements next week to start considering how remaining conference teams would be affected it's going to be a cluster.
Hopefully, she or someone has already started working on this to keep it from being a burden on any remaining schools.
If it were me, divisions would be Charlotte, FAU, FIU, MTSU, and WKU in the east and LaTech, North Texas, Rice, UTEP, and UTSA in the west. UAB would be the middle school and could go to either division.
Unless one of the FCS schools come up early, it would be uneven as one division would play five division games and three cross-division games, and the other would play four division games and four cross-division games.
FWIW, I've heard that there's either a lack of urgency from the two rising FCS schools and a lack of push from C-USA to get either exempt and FBS eligible for next year as what is being done wit JMU, so it might be an 11-school conference in 2022.

RE: 2022 Football Schedule?
There may not be 8 conference games by each team next year and some teams may have an extra OOC game or two. If so, I bet there will be a push to play some of the incoming FCS schools and with some of the departing teams as a home and away. Just as the future AAC teams may pick up some games from their new conference.
WKU could think strategically and try to get MAC a game or two in order to posture for more shuffling next year.
What does Liberty’s schedule look like next year?

RE: 2022 Football Schedule?
Not a big deal to have an 11 team conference for one year. The AAC has done it since UConn left and will do it in 2022 again. The MAC did with a waiver for a few years. Totally inconsequential.

Probably a stupid question but (other than "Talking Head? speculation) what is your official source that Marshall, ODU, and Southern Miss are going to Sun Belt in 2022?

What I've heard from this end lines up with that. I think we are more focused on our stadium renovation that kicks off next month and getting the new coaching staff in place.

IF, IF this happens UAB could lose two home games next year. Because USM and Marshall are suppose to come to Birmingham next year.

It's most likely happening. To much talk and smoke. Ive heard from a few people that are always connected that an announcement may come as early as next week about a 2022 move.
Honestly a 9 month divorce is better than a 21 month divorce. Marshall done the 21 month divorce from 2003 to July of 2005 and it sucked, for everyone involved.
Im sure the 6 headed to the AAC would rather move next year too but no way in #$% are Texas and Oklahoma going to pay the B12 80-95 million dollars to move a year earlier.

So your schedule will change and you'll have 2 schools coming to Birmingham that you didn't expect. I understan that those 2 teams are good drwas in your area but you won't have them on your schedule post 2022 anyway.
UTEP will not be going to ODU and won't be hosting USM, both UTEP wins in 2021. So instead those 2 will be replaced by 2 out of Charlotte, FIU, WKU or MTSU, none of which were expected to be on the 2022 schedule.
It's 1 year so not a big deal.

RE: 2022 Football Schedule?
Either how we did when UAB was on hiatus with uneven divisions or similar to what the AAC is currently doing, divisionless. Either way everyone will have 4 H, 4 A conference games and there will be a CCG. Not a huge deal for one year.

RE: 2022 Football Schedule?
Still don't have anything from an official source, but the latest rumor is, JSU will be playing an ASUN schedule next fall. That would rule out any chance of us (and probably SHSU) joining early with an NCAA waiver (a la JMU to the Sun Belt).
It doesn't answer too many questions about the rest of the CUSA schedules, but at least you know we're (probably) off the table for 2022. JSU at least will probably have some open slots available, so we could possibly help fill some of the vacated games, but we'd count as an FCS opponent, so some teams wouldn't have room to give for a sub-FBS team.

RE: 2022 Football Schedule?
If the 3 leave C-USA would just have to redo the schedules, same as when UAB cancelled their program. Big question is if any of JSU/SHSU/NMSU/Liberty join next year as well. C-USA might have to schedule between 11-15 schools next year, but it's only for one year so while awkward it'll be fine

Looks like they're gone. I doubt NMSU or Liberty join next year. They have a lot of games to clear off their schedule.

I thought about a setup similar to this when UConn left the AAC. Basically it was the five east would stay the same, the west would lose Navy, and Navy would play four from each division.
Each division plays the other four plus four non-division members. Whoever has the highest conference record between the two division winners and Navy would play in the championship.
Substitute Navy with UAB or whoever and that's what C-USA can do. I don't know if the NCAA would allow it but it would only be temporary anyway.
