RE: 2022 Football Schedule?
Going by what the Arkansas St AD is saying we should know for sure by the end of this month if ODU, USM and Marshall are joining the SBC this year. The CUSA football schedule is normally released about that time so that may be delayed some. I would bet that we will not see any of the new 4 until 2023 to allow for a more orderly process and that would mean either we have the same 14 schools for 2022 or more likely we have 11 for 1 year which is fine.

Wishing all departing schools the best and those of us remaining as well.

I don't see why he would announce it if it wasn't a done deal. If there were questions on anything else needing ironed out, or if it was going to be a "no" vote, he likely would've kept quiet.

11 for one year shouldn't be too rough
Definitely wishing the best for UTEP

Sam Houston announced their schedule today. WAC schedule with OOC games at Texas A&M, home to NAU and at EKU.

And has there been any talk of EKU and fbs?

RE: 2022 Football Schedule?
If the Sun Belt bound schools do leave it will create a scheduling mess for 2022. I don’t think Liberty and NMSU will join as they’d have a bunch of games to cancel at the last minute. And it doesn’t seem like the FCS schools will be joining early, either.

An eleven member conference is a hassle as you can’t have even divisions. It would make life easier if one AAC bound member left this year.

If not, it is still workable. I’m sure the league office will do their best to be as fair as possible. If you don’t get a return visit you were expecting or you have to go somewhere for the second year in a row, just deal with it. No need to get your panties in a wad over a crazy situation that will only last one season. An eleven member league also lets you have a 20 game basketball schedule if you so desire. You can also play a full round robin in baseball in eight weeks.

Conference USA would likely make the West Division a 6-team division with 5 division games and 3 randomly-selected cross-divisional games. The East Division likely composed of the 5 teams remaining would likely play the 4 division games and then play 4 randomly generated cross-divisional games.

Matt Brown of Extra Points mentioned offhand that he wouldn't be surprised if they ended up in CUSA. He said he wasnt reporting as imminent fact though, just a feeling.

The Big 10 did 11 for years. The AAC did it briefly.

It's not great, but you can do it.

Eastern Kentucky isn't joining this conference as long as Western is in it.

That would be my first thought too. Maybe he said it when WKU was talking to the Mac.

There is a vote on expanded Sun Belt members joining on Jan 26. And with the announcement of Little Rock going to the OVC and yesterdays announcement that UTA was heading to the WAC, I think its all a foregone conclusion that ODU, Southern Miss and Marshall are heading to the Sun Belt in July.

I don't think the UTA thing was technically announced just yet (just leaked).

But I'm afraid you might be right. Fingers crossed though. Hopefully not.

UTA was just leaks, nothing official, but with the Ark St AD making a public comment about a vote, I would assume that means a done deal and this is just for the press releases.

Someone on the SBC board mentioned that the 4 new members leadership would be part of the vote or present for the vote, which is just more confirmation.

You don't let things like that leak if it isn't true or you at least send out a press release stopping it in its tracks if there is one, since neither of those happened I assume UTA is gone.

If true that ODU, JMU, Southern Miss and Marshall have a vote on this then what else is there really even to discuss.

Myself I would much rather have a short divorce. Been through the 21 month divorce before from 2003-2005 when joining CUSA. Wasn't fun for Marshall, the MAC, fans of the MAC or MAC admin and coaches. Im pretty sure if those heading to the AAC could go any sooner they would. The thing is Texas and Oklahoma aren't paying the B12 80-95 million dollars just to leave early.

I think we all want a short divorce because of how ugly our MAC separation was. But looking back, the fact a fan made a countdown web page for our departure was some next level trolling and I can appreciate that now.

Maybe I'm messing up with the math, but 6 teams with 3 crossover games in the west would be 18 games and 5 East teams playing 4 crossover games would be 20 games, right? Those two numbers have to be the same.

That would have been goodbyemarshall.com and it was set up by a Miami OH fan. They could also write haiku's about us there. That website stayed up well into 2009 when it finally vanished.

Probably we'd drop divisions officially but still try to prioritize geography in setting the schedules. I think that's more or less what the AAC's been doing.

Just take two best records for the championship game. It's ugly, but we could do it in a pinch. Still hoping we don't have to.

Yeah, that was pretty much a given. No need for those programs to rush the move to Division 1-A.
