RE: Adding Men’s Golf
If not mistaken, Tarleton State was only program in WAC not sponsoring men’s golf.
In a somewhat related note, Abilene Christian remains only school not sponsoring women’s golf.
Always a good thing when a school adds a sport especially when it’s a Texas school within the WAC

It's about time. Now someone needs to dump some money in to Legends and get the Girls and now the Boys a course worth practicing on.

I've heard that Tarleton is looking into buying Legends and fixing it up to give the teams a home course.

I don’t see why Tarleton would… better get some serious $$$ Golf courses lose money religiously in this area.

So we would sell the Hunewell Ranch and then turn around and buy a golf course?
I dont get it

RE: Adding Men’s Golf
Men's Golf program was a legit contender every year in NAIA in the 80's before the move to D2. There is a lot of good golfer's around the Stephenville region not to mention the Metro-Plex. They better start pumping some serious $$$ towards facilities if they want to attract recruits because Legends is a cow pasture with a houses on the front nine. And who would want to drive 30-45 minutes every day to practice at nice courses in other towns? Harbor Lakes, Squaw Valley, Sugar Tree are not short drives (nor extremely long) for practice on a weekday.

I too have heard the rumor about Tarleton buying Legends. It would be a smart move--leverage the agriculture department, bring back the turfgrass management program, make some significant upgrades to the physical facilities (i.e. mow down that clubhouse that the Traweek's continuously put lipstick on). When I worked there, I tried to convince John to put about $2,000 worth of decent-caliber trees on the back nine to better define and dignify some of the holes--never happened.
Last I heard, Jerry Don Doyle was working out there as a "consultant" for the turfgrass. That guy knows more about the interworkings of that golf course than anyone.

It would be a very smart move for Tarleton. I have heard that the current owners believe that it is worth much more than it actually is though. It has continued to do downhill over the last 10 years, and it wasn't in a great spot then.
You are 1000% correct about Jerry Don. Dude could make grass grow on concrete if he had to.
