Exclamation Open Thread - 2021/22 Bowl Games
Minnesota opened the 2021/22 bowl game season with a win last night.

Maryland is playing in New York right now.

Good luck to all Big Ten teams playing!

Don't forget about the Schmolik Bowl Pick Contest: https://csnbbs.com/thread-937871.html

And Badgers.

But the big games are upcoming. Winning the Music City, Pinstripe, and Guaranteed Rate Bowls is nice but winning the Outback, Citrus, Rose, and Orange means a whole lot more. Go Penn State, Iowa, Ohio State, and Michigan!

Looks like the Big Ten is off to a great bowl season, the SEC not so much.

Congratulations Badgers!

Congratulations to Wake Forest and Georgia, both very impressive with wins over BIG schools.

Shout out to Rutgers for stepping up and filling in.

Well yesterday was humiliating for the Big Ten. Hopefully today goes better in the Outback, Capital One, and Rose Bowl (or as Ohio State calls it, the Consolation Bowl:)

Well James Franklin treats bowl games like practices and many players chose to opt out anyway. Penn State is down big and playing poorly so don't expect a win from us.

RE: Open Thread - 2021/22 Bowl Games
I don't know if it's just Penn State when it comes to their attitude towards bowl games.

Other than the CFP, the Citrus Bowl and the Outback Bowl are IMO the next two most important bowls out there as they are traditionally played on New Year's Day and traditionally pit the Big Ten against the SEC. We can debate the importance of these games, especially in the days of opt outs, but outside of CFP and NY6 games, they are the best annual measuring stick for the Big Ten vs. the SEC.

In the last ten years (2013-2022), the Big Ten is 3-7 vs. the SEC in the Outback Bowl.
In the last ten Citrus Bowls (2011-2012), the Big Ten is 2-8 vs. the SEC (in December 31, 2016 and 2018 the Big 10 didn't play in the Citrus).

These two bowls mean more than the Music City Bowl. Obviously the Big Ten needs to make the most noise in the CFP/NY6 but these bowls are the next level.

And how about the Rose Bowl? We're not even competing with the SEC but with the Pac 12! In the last ten Big 10/Pac 12 Rose Bowls? The Pac 12 leads 7-3 (dating back to 2008)! Forget the SEC, are we even better than the Pac-12? Or can we only win Guaranteed Rate and Pinstripe Bowls that no one cares about?

Based on what I've forced myself to endure watching Ohio State's rendition of defense this season I can say that Knowles can't get to Columbus soon enough.

RE: Open Thread - 2021/22 Bowl Games
OK, the exception to the Rose Bowl is Ohio State.

2022: Ohio State 48, Utah 45
2019: Ohio State 28, Washington 23
2010: Ohio State 26, Oregon 17
1997: Ohio State 20, Arizona State 17

The last time OSU lost a Rose Bowl was 1985 (20-17 to USC).

I'm pretty sure the Buckeyes won't agree to this two out of every three years but can we send Ohio State to the Rose Bowl every year?

Meanwhile Wisconsin has lost four straight Rose Bowls (2011, 2012, 2013, 2020), Michigan three (2004, 2005, 2007), and Penn State two (2009, 2017). The only Big Ten team other than Ohio State to win a Rose Bowl since Wisconsin won in 2000 was Michigan State in 2014.
