Unusual situation in Miami Football
footballscoop.com is reporting that both of Miami's co-defensive coordinators (Hauser and Nowinsky) are candidates for similar positions at Ohio U.

Making a move in-conference would be rare enough, but to one's biggest rival too?

Wonder if this a sign of problems within Redhawks' coaching staff.

Our ST Coach is leaving for UConn as well, though that's less unusual since it's his alma mater and they'll be able to pay an assistant way more than us.

I don't think anyone knows what's going on from the outside. It's one thing if we had a bad season and/or were seeing dysfunction on the sidelines, but we just came off a bowl win to clinch three straight winning seasons and have a lot of key contributors returning. Maybe Martin is tired of everything and will join Brian Kelly's staff at LSU? No idea.

I think the negotiations and such were happening before the bowl win. And with the MAC East quite weak this year and Miami not winning it as they should have, and Martin being there for so long -- they were willing to walk elsewhere with a decent deal.

But to go to OH-hi-oh? I would have to imagine Martin & them didn't get along too well.

Still no idea why Hauser and Nowitsky left, though it looks like we got some real solid replacements. New coaches are Bill Brechin as DC (promoted from Safeties coach), Jacob Bronowski as ST Coach (ST Grad Analyst at Tennessee), Joe Bowen as LB Coach (GA at South Carolina, also a Miami alum), and Robert Blanton as CB Coach (recent NFL player, went to Notre Dame when Martin was still there). With Gabbert entering his senior year we could make some real noise this season if he stays healthy and the defense stays towards the top of the MAC.

Chuck Martin switched his emphasis to working with the defense during the 2018 season. He is the de facto defensive coordinator. The offensive coaches call all the plays. Coach Martin does manage the game, calling TO's, deciding when to go for it or punt or try a fg, when to ask for a review of a call. Since he moved there we have basically been the statistical leader in defense in the MAC and have had 3 straight winning seasons. So maybe our co defensive coordinators wanted more say in what was going on.
