Ben Bryant has entered the portal.
Bryant has joined Preston Hutchinson in the transfer portal per 24/7 Sports.

That has been my fear for a few weeks.
I just hope we aren't in an era of "the portal giveth, and the portal taketh away... "
I don't want to bait DP, but there is free agency in the NFL effecting a modest proportion of players.
But this is crazy on steroids. Hell a team could lose 5, 10, 25, 50, etc. of their players to the portal. No one other than players signing new LOI are bound to any team.
Just wait until a sophomore Heisman trophy winner from UofM decides to transfer back home to Ohio and attend OSU.
Just better hope that the game doesn't get ruined...

Gutsy (and possibly stupid) move for him. He's the guaranteed starter at EMU and now he needs to earn the spot elsewhere. I had heard a month ago that he wanted to transfer back to Cincinnati. Would he start there?
At least now the door is open for a mobile QB. Bryant was a sitting duck for the pass rush. A statue. This could work out well for EMU.
Come back Hutch!

This is so 'dynamic' If one leaves, will the other stay? Who moves first? Who decides the grass is not greener elsewhere (insert joke about gray grass, if you will)?
I feel for C.C. How does a HC game this out? Who will be his #1 QB going into spring? Only God knows. Does he sit back and wait for the first shoe to drop and then talk to the other QB? Does he go fishing for another QB? But can he go looking before he knows what he need?

I'm sure that a lot of QBs will be looking at EMU. The job is wide open. Like I said, this could be a plus for EMU. Maybe another Malik Willis is out there.

Definitely strong rumors of a return to Cincinnati with Desmond Ridder leaving but they still have Evan Prater, who was a four star recruit and shined in limited action behind Ridder.

Hutchinson could reconsider his transfer but as of now the starter would look to be Austin Smith.

How in year NINE, within a week does CC not have any idea that both might leave.....Also, Hutch, and Bryant both have graduated, so Hutch wanted to start, and Bryant is looking for a place to prove, he's an NFL player.......Baron May is better then both of them if CC gives him a chance, and doesn't go fishing for another transfer!

Best of luck to him, but I’m not necessarily worried about replacing him. Or Hutchinson for that matter. Both were serviceable, but had pretty noticeable flaws. Neither were on Mike Glass’s level, and I think both can be adequately replaced by either one of the younger guys on the roster or another transfer.

Who said CC had no idea they might leave? I'm sure he knows more than you give him credit for. A lot more.

Rumors have been out there for sometime. They just never were publicly posted.
I have a posting rule: I will never break a sensitive story unless I can verify it on the internet. In that case the internet, not me, becomes the source.

RE: Ben Bryant has entered the portal.
Wow, what a dumb and disrespectful move by Bryant.
I'm not ok with this, particularly because Hutch left for the Portal. I have a lot of questions with this..... Did Hutch leave knowing Bryant said he was going to stay? Why did Bryant wait to enter the portal? Why come to EMU with 2 yrs left if you didnt want to finish here? (He thinks he can showcase better somewhere else? Dude is not that good)
I'm upset because he came here, stunted the growth and development of a returning starter (Hutch) and then decided to leave to another school after Hutch entered the portal. I love the portal for guys who leave for a better opportunity, but this stinks. He has a VERY good receiving core coming back and his best competition to start just entered the portal. Why leave?
How are you guys ok with this? We are in a worse situation now because of Bryant.
Good luck to whoever picks him up. You will be getting an accurate 5-8 yd attempt quarterback who cant run.
Thanks Ben, adios.

A reminder that Hutchinson CAN come back. Putting your name in the portal doesn't mean you must leave.
Now obviously, it still depends if Hutchinson and the staff want him to return. He probably does leave, but I wouldn't be shocked if he stays put.

This is starting to look like the case where two male suitors chase an elusive female and conduct a spirited contest to see who wins her friendship (sorry if this is starting to sound like a 100 year old movie ) and in the end they both lose her to a third suitor.
I was never sold on having two QBs both of whom had the experience and ability to lead a MAC team.
On paper it sounds great (like having a bunch of different assets and asset classes) but in reality it is risky.

I agree Steve, but Bryant screwed EMU on this one. He could have told Hutch he was leaving and likely Hutch would have stayed. He also stunted the growth of Hutch by taking his spot for a year after Hitch was the starter.
I hope he does go to Cincinnati. Get out of Ypsi and dont come back.

I agree. Bryant treated EMU like a JUCO. Good riddance.

An interesting dual-threat QB, but with only one year left: https://theathletic.com/news/virginia-te...oTMptI9sC/
He officially entered the portal on 12/20.

Well I like Smith and Bryant and would like to see us bring in one experienced QB or real good JUCO and one true frosh to redshirt. I'm not happy about Bryant leaving or Hutch either. But the fact is we could end up getting better at QB at the end of all of this. Lets get them in before spring practice.
