"I’ve hinted at this for a few weeks now.
He’s absolutely interested in UC and feeling is mutual. Will it happen, not sure but I’m 100% certain he has serious interest to come back here and this has been in the works for a while even during the season. He was going to EMU for one season to get experience- this is from someone who would absolutely know this situation."

Could be pure speculation, but the poster seems pretty confident about his source.

Generally, the UC posters seem quite willing to welcome Bryant back with open arms.

From my perspective, let him go. He will degrade Cincinnati football. He’s a good QB but not a great one. He absolutely has zero mobility or pocket presence.

He’s kind of leaving the same taste in my mouth when Rob Murphy shopped himself around. Good luck to Bryant at his next destination.

Bryant will sucessful if that's really his next opportunity! The reasons are obvious, Cincinnati will have a really good OL, A good offensive coordinator, above average run game, and A head coach who will put him in a position to be successful! At EMU, he had to throw the ball 35-40 times a game, had the worst running game in the MAC, and it's much easier to play defense when you're one dimensional moving the football! Let's be honest would you prefer your son to start at E Michigan, or Cincinnati.........Bryant I can't believe would win the job easily over Prather who's the current backup QB at Cincinnati! Best of luck Bryant, thanks for A 3,121 yard passing season, without much of a run game!

RE: Ben Bryant has entered the portal.
I'm watching Houston vs. Auburn but our QB situation has gone full daytime soap opera.

I just read the last two posts and they are completely contradictory. Such is the wonderful world of sports.

I remember once talking with Rick Rasnick, then our HC. He was talking about southern FB (I forgot why). He said in the South they have two seasons, football season and spring ball.

Well we have football season and player personnel season which is lasting longer and longer with more signing periods and with the ubiquitous transfer portal.

In most years we'd be watching Bowl Mania...

This is definitely not in the spirit of what college athletics is supposed to be.

If true, kinda makes one wish Hutch would have retained the starting role.

Let's be honest here, Ben Bryant is NOT Desmond Ritter and I suspect Cincy will have a far better option available for next season, but Ben would be a nice security blanket.

This transfer situation really sucks, but I credit Dan for identifying coach migration as a root cause of the current state of NCAA athletics. How can you blame an athlete for transferring or sitting out a bowl game when the coach has left the school for more money?

My gut tells me Bryant intended on staying at EMU most of the season (and told the coaches that) but started having family/other coaches whispering in his ear "ayou should go back P5. You could get the Cinci QB1 job." and Bryant changed his mind at the last minute and decided Cinci would be enticing again.

Again, that's my gut, not based on any info. But you can never underestimate the ability of an uncle or private QB coach to give shady advice.

Agreed, and this has already diminished my excitement about college basketball in general. I don’t know any of the players, and most will not be here next year regardless of what happens. Why care?

Trying to hang onto my love of college baseball and football.

Bryant is no longer listed on the roster online

det news has some reporting on our QB room:
https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports...036698002/

"His next move could require him to sit out a season since he's already moved once, unless he receives a waiver." - per Tony Paul

As indicated in this post and in a post by DP under FB recruiting. The NCAA has a mess on its hands.

As a computer systems analyst, I vaguely remember this thought: 10% of the cases require 90% of the code. Think of it as 'exceptions.' Someone like Bryant attempts to transfer twice using a regular transfer exception and grad transfer (in some order). Think you are working on the 2020 census and someone claims to be 125 years old. Or a 8 year old claim to be married. In the days of paper forms one could claim to be virtually anything and the processing needed to clean up the data.

NCAA rules have no problems for student-athletes who play 4 seasons in 5 years with a redshirt or medical redshirt. Then we get the Bryant case and all of the policy legalisms it could entail.

What are the NCAA rules for this? Does he have to sit out a year? What happens if because of Covid exception he goes 6 or 7 years? Did he transfer to EMU as a grad transfer OR as a regular transfer? (I believe it makes a difference).

RE: Ben Bryant has entered the portal.
One thought about this mess of STUDENT/ATHLETIC free agency. Lets pivot to STUDENTS, not student/athletes:

Let's say CMU has 1,000 vacant residence hall slots. They communicate with EMU frosh and say, "Transfer this winter semester and take a min. of 12 hours and your residence for this semester is free."

So 750 EMU frosh say, "Freshman English at CMU is the same as freshman English at EMU. The grass is greener there... I want to save some big, big bucks. See you, EMU."

This is a CRAZY example, but it shows how MARKET FORCES, not sound policy, could cause total havoc in higher education. Where are the guard rails????

Absolutely thats why I'm so upset with Bryant. I feel like he used us for a yr and that put us behind the 8 ball with Hutch leaving. I think I would be ok with Bryant leaving if Hutch stayed. Something stinks about this and I think it starts with Bryant. Lastly, if he transfers back to UC, those fans better temper their expectations. Ben is a good QB but nowhere near great He did not throw the ball down the field, has zero mobility and to me never had the fire or leadership Hutch had. Take a look at the EMU players twitter accounts and you'll see the love they had for Hutch. ZERO for Ben.

I'll try to find one of my posts, but I warned what happens in COLLEGE FB when two QBs are 1a and 1b. That is a recipe for disaster.

With Hutch and Bryant which of those two would be happy holding the clip board???

Both are good enough to start in the MAC, and Bryant thinks he is good enough to start for a CFP team.

Idea: the NCAA should change the transfer rules so that a kid can only use the free transfer after their first year or if there is a head coach change. If a kid wants to transfer after his 2nd or 3rd year then they need to sit a season.

If i was the the one making the rules: a player should get 2 opportunities to transfer in a 5 year window and i think a player shouldn't be able to take those transfers in consecutive years (no three teams in three years) UNLESS they are years 3-4-5.

I don't really have a measure on this. Football is on a program break until January 9. The players are spread all over at this time. Alex is down in Florida so I haven't really had a chance to talk to him about this. I know Bryant's locker was right next to Alex's, so Alex had built a relationship with him and liked him as a teammate. Alex flies back to Michigan tomorrow, so hopefully I'll get some sense from him where he is on this, but I doubt he'll have a sense where all the other guys are.
