I don't ever use player names but in this case I did because he entered the portal and is no longer on the team. in my opinion,, if a player chooses to quit the program, they are fair game as long as it doesn't get personal.. I got heated because I think (just an opinion and I don't have inside info) his decision to leave screwed over Hutch who I don't think deserved that. I could be totally wrong about everything and maybe both guys genuinely wanted to leave (doubtful).

I understand what you are saying and I will soften tone moving forward but stand by what I said.

Get used to the suckiness of the transfer portal. It is going to be like how successful MAC coaches get plucked. If a player shows anything, someone, somewhere will try to poach them. It is the new normal of NCAA athletics. You will root for a brand new group of players every season.

Okay, I'm not sure he's not on the team.

I have NO inside information but until next sememster starts I make no judgements.

Remember transferring isn't easy mid-year. A player transferring mid-year might not get a scholarship for 2nd semester.

They may have leases to 'break.' Who wants to move in the dead of winter say 500, 1000 miles away?

Maybe either or both QBs enroll for 2nd semester and then transfer afterwards.

I would consider it like a marital separation it may lead to the judge or it may lead to reconciliation. I don't if either are spitting unhappy at EMU.

Could you imagine the NFL if each player was essentially a FA after each season.

The issue is timing. Second semester classes start January 10. Ideally you would want the transfer portal, JUCO and/or true frosh QB to be enrolled by then and then be available for spring ball and go through winter conditioning. The biggest handicap we have is we need one or two QBs to learn the system.

I have no idea of what happened with Hutch or Bryant except that we are now perhaps behind the 8 ball for next season without an experienced QB who has experience with our WRs and offensive schemes in OUR system.

Throw in the timing of this several days after the bowl game is VERY frustrating because it impacts the program. I care about the TEAM over the individual. If Bryant goes back to Cincinnati then the picture gets clearer. Perhaps he was only using EMU to get PT while Ridder was getting the PT at Cincinnati. If this is the case then he was using EMU as a JUCO and we should all be pissed.

Hutch is no longer listed on the EMU roster - Bryant is. Hutch announced his intention to leave on twitter - Bryant hasnt. I wouldnt be shocked if Bryant has a change of heart and stays.

I agree with you and address the issue in the recruiting thread.

I just hope, as someone has posted, that Bryant doesn't go fishing, even back to Cincy, take a chance to be the starter, become #2 and waste the rest of his college career.

And who wants to transfer now as a grad student who has been to Cincy and EMU ? This isn't like transferring from JUCO to a 4-year school.

My thought: Pick your grad school carefully and expect to finish your masters there. (P.S. I don't know how far along Bryant is as a grad student. Most athletes take 2 years to complete a master's degree so a 2nd EMU year should do it.

Likely no.proof, but it speaks to one of 2 things....
1. Ben Bryant is a rat who decided to screw over Hutch and EMU by transferring after a conversation that he would be the guy moving forward (this is what I think happened)

2. CC has no finger on the pulse of the program with the most important position. (unlikely)

Guys. This is a public forum. We need to be careful what we post and how we say it.

We are fans of the program. It is not our job to throw verbal bombs or burn bridges.

I suggest we all remain calm and let CC and the two QBs time and space to see how things work out.

I would think that things are very fluid. Anything could happen. Don't want to go postal against a QB and then have him return next season...

What Steve meant to say is only he can throw verbal bombs or burn bridges. The rest of his post I agree with.

Well said 79. That is why I am upset. A decision to leave after Hutch left is awfully strange and stinks to me. Throw in the timing of this several days after the bowl game is VERY frustrating because it impacts the program. I care about the TEAM over the individual. Again, I am a Baron May guy and this opens it up for him so maybe I need to relax. Baron will be in his 3rd year next year. He's young but not really.

If Bryant leaves I think EMU is a great place for a high ranked high school or JUCO QB to come and compete for playing time right away. I think some are missing this point, if Bryant stays who want to follow someone as a team leader that was thinking about leaving? I don't know what the impact of the portal is on team morale or whether its he's leaving so I am too? Maybe all the players are fine with that. I don't know.
