Congrats Broncs! Dominant win.

Yeah, while the 0-4 start looked really bad (especially some blowout losses) the two wins at least keep this bowl season from being an embarrassment. Nevada beat Boise (who's down this year anyways) so a solid chance for the Chips if they come ready to play. 3-5 sounds way better than 2-6.

Nothing wrong with today's performance but Nevada was down their NFL prospect QB, two more NFL prospect pass catchers (WR and TE), 7 of their top 8 pass catchers in total, two starting OL, a starting LB, starting safety, their head coach and about half their coaching staff. This team didn't really resemble the 8-4 regular season team.

What a fun team to watch —hate to remind Husky fans I was watching that smackdown too.

Always liked/pull for the Broncos when we’re not playing. It’s a Western thing 04-cheers

I mean, our QB wasn't playing against WMU and the backup was a true freshman. And one of our 2 remaining starting WRs was out too. We might not have won but it wouldn't have been a 21 point loss. Also, the singular is "Huskie" in our case. Long story.

My bad, Huskie it is 04-cheers

In fairness, though, some of their fans are, in fact, Husky.

RE: WMU/Nevada bowl
WMU finishes the season 7-1 against non-MAC West opponents, lol.

It was a feel-good win, for sure, with a nice boost to the off-season and Lester rotated in plenty of back-ups for PT throughout the game.

I'm also a realist, and know that Nevada was shorthanded even by 2021 Bowl Season standards. Instead of an 8-4 Mountain West team, Nevada likely resembled more of a 4-8/5-7 Mountain West team.

Still... .500-ish MAC teams (like WMU) still typically lose against 4-8/5-7 Mountain West type of teams. So I still consider this a "good" win.

I would agree that it was like playing SJSU again. However, it's not like we weren't missing any people. With their QB gone + receivers + new coaches (which I guess can be OK for a 1 bowl game with tons of prep time) -- their O made them dip to that level. However, their D wasn't hit hard -- so I would say even with their QB coming back and keeping a couple original receivers in there, it'd be safe to give the nod to us still, as we stomped them, and it'd instead be a shoot-out.

Take what Todd says, with a grain of salt. If Todd won the lottery, he would spend his day posting about how winning was nice, but now he has a lot more to pay in taxes this year. LOL

No, I would be b!tching about how many other people winning the lotto won more than me! 03-wink

I was just giving an even-keeled POV on it, is all. Since we stomped them + had some of our own losses to some extent, we shouldn't be credited with a "conditional" win, but a solid one where it should be presumed they'd still likely lose to us even if they had their QB + HC + a couple of key receivers. Which, in the end, yes, is a good win. :)

Hey it could be worse. I'm in a twitter debate with a has been radio personality from Toledo... this is the debate.

Radio man- Look at FCS Montana State vs. South Dakota State crowd, and tell me the MAC doesn't deserve to get relegated to FCS compared to the Bahamas Bowl Crowd vs. MTSU.

Me- Um, you have a lot better evidence during the regular season to fight for this claim but come on... These teams are 1000 miles plus from their home cities, during covid, across international borders.... The crowd at the Bahamas is not the place for this argument.

Radio man- Yes it is, no one cares about UT or the MAC.

Me- Watch the MAC win the rest of its bowl games, and see the crowds with closer commutes show out... aka UNT vs. Miami and WMU vs. Nevada.

... silence

WMU defeats Nevada in front of 22.5k

Me- there you go, the single home game we have has good crowd of 22.5k.

Radio Man- If you think 22.5k in a stadium that holds 65k is good than laughing face laughing face.

Me- That FCS game you bragged about had 20.5k... and Nevada had hardly any players play and/or buzz this year. They probably brought 500 people like FIU did in 2010. Bowl attendance is based on proximity 1st and destination 2nd. This is our only home bowl game and outdrew (until Wazzu) the other tie ins we had. It's not a MAC problem, it's a bowl problem (for us).

Radio man- waiting reply.

Now let it be known, I was optimistic about more wins but we have 2 and I think we can get one more! But still... don't let the media who follows the MAC LESS than most of us do run down this league. The MAC is at a big disadvantage... Fight back! Embrace being the underdog. CMU WE GOT YOUR BACK!

He sounds like your average a-hole P5 fan. Either roots for a school he didn't attend simply because they win a lot, or he roots for a P5 team that would lose to Toledo and other MAC schools and is only in a P5 conference because of something that happened 100 years ago.

Lol. He's comparing a playoff semi-final to the (conveniently cherry-picked) Bahamas Bowl. Because I'm sure two random FCS teams with a .500-ish record would pack the stadium in Nassau.

Attendance smack in general has run its course and is becoming increasingly irrelevant. Times have changed with shifted consumer tastes and expanded entertainment options over the past 10+ years. And even sillier these past couple years with COVID waves and people being more mindful of budgets.

The Bahama Bowl is also played in a small stadium. ESPN is reporting that it was 91% full.

Yeah, that's silly. One would even expect a D2 National Championship game to have a bigger crowd than a Bahamas Bowl. That's not a measuring stick of worthy-program-comparison at all.

Quote:Because I'm sure two random FCS teams with a .500-ish record would pack the stadium in Nassau.

Or if FCS teams had a bunch of bowls outside their playoff scheme -- how many would show up to a mundane FCS bowl way out in the Bahamas during (during COVID no less)? lol

Not only that, but WMU's nickname used to be "Hilltoppers" about a century ago.
