Underperforming, underwhelming, underpaid, and trapped in a bad ESPN contract because Swofford wanted to make sure his son at Raycom was part of the media deal. May not exist anymore as a conference in 15 years when the GOR expires and more realignment happens. A conference comprised of media markets just in time for bundled traditional TV to die. A conference desperately in need of more regionality. I have no interest in playing Syracuse or Boston College in anything. I don't appreciate how much the league's media partner is a shill and a semp for the SEC.

a smaller ACC footprint would result in a lot fewer ACCN subs ...

It’s certainly not on par with the ACC, but as someone who has a rooting interest in JMU too I love what the Sun Belt did with their recent additions. They focused on adding programs with strong football traditions in a relatively compact geography - that will help foster rivalries within fanbases that tend to overlap in the conference footprint.

The BC & Syracuse additions have never been a clean fit geographically with the ACC, and with the exception of the Matt Ryan years haven’t produced much high level football.

I get that a lot of the ACC membership wants no part of them, but I’ve always felt that WVU makes a lot of sense for the conference. They care about football institutionally and have great longstanding rivalries with VT and Pitt.

If the ACC was able to somehow get Maryland back in the fold, add WVU, and somehow convince BC & Syracuse their fortunes would be best served elsewhere, I think that would be the perfect alignment for the conference moving forward.

Granted, that’s coming from a perspective at the relative northern end of the conference. Curious what fans of the southern end of the conference think…

Feels like waiting to be Big 12'ed in about 10-15 years when the GOR has no more teeth. I just don't see enough strong leadership and enough runway to turn this thing around in time.

I think WVU will end up playing a lot of current ACC member schools - in whatever ACC/Big XII hybrid ends up happening. Too early to tell which or how many teams from each conference (or even what it's called).

One person's opinion:
The Big Ten adds 10 and the SEC adds 8. ESPN groups its product.

You have 9 AAU schools in the PAC and Notre Dame. Add those to the B1G.

The SEC adds FSU, North Carolina, Duke, Clemson, N.C. State, Virginia, Va Tech, and Kansas.

SEC:
Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M
Alabama, Louisiana State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, South Carolina
Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, N.C. State, Virginia, Virginia Tech

B1G:
California, California Los Angeles, Oregon, Southern Cal, Stanford, Washington
Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Utah
Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Wisconsin
Indiana, Maryland, Notre Dame, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers

the leftover association:
Boston College, Cincinnati, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, West Virginia
Baylor, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas Christain
Central Florida, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Miami, South Florida, Tulane
Arizona State, Brigham Young, Oregon State, San Diego State, Texas Tech, Washington State

And with all due respect despite expansion this is the weakest top to bottom MBB and the weakest top to bottom FB I've ever seen in my lifetime in the ACC. And that's not what you want when you're dead last in the P5 in TV compensation, which is causing financial disparities so extreme it will rip the conference apart.
