Quote:BYU is a strong independent program that has just enjoyed consecutive double-digit-win seasons, so it will be interesting to see how it adjusts to playing in a conference for the first time.
The writer also doesn't research back more than a couple of years, either.

RE: Conference Realignment Winners and Losers
Yeah, I thought the whole thing was a little dubious. I mean, CUSA is losing the teams that have won 8 of the last 11 football championships, including the last 5 in a row. And one of the teams that won a title in the stretch- Tulsa from 2012- has been gone for a while. WKU, who won in '15 and '16, will be the only team in the conference who has ever won a CUSA football title. Basketball isn't much better. Teams that have won the title since Memphis left- UAB, Tulsa (been gone), MTSU (staying), Marshall (gone), ODU (gone) and North Texas (gone).

RE: Conference Realignment Winners and Losers
1. SEC were definite winners from a money perspective.
2. SBC were winners because they improve both their football and basketball products.
3. CUSA were winners because they survived, got smaller, and added good programs in both football and basketball.
4. MWC were winners because they stayed intact.
5. Not sure if the AAC was a winner or loser. The conference added good programs and some dead weight programs. Personally, adding UAB, UTSA, and FAU would have been my choice.
6. The PAC 12, B1G, and ACC were definite losers because they lost the Texas/OU lottery.
7. The Big XII were winners because like CUSA not only did they survive, they are adding three teams in the current CFP Top 25 and one of them is in the playoffs. Yes losing OU and Texas hurts from a brand perspective but the SEC took a major headache off of Bowlsby's lap and I think the next TV deal for the conference will actually turn out to be a pretty good one for the Big XII.
Just my opinion of course.

I like how we're dragging her when she also said things like this
Quote:UTSA and UAB, which have had a ton of momentum of late, are easily already candidates to follow in the footsteps of Cincy and UCF to build to national relevancy.

...good point, but... she contradicts herself somewhat when she said the AAC is a 'net loss', but at least a couple of the programs coming into the AAC could hit it big as the teams they are 'replacing'... thus on average it will be a 'push', not a 'loss'...

I don't see how the AAC is a winner in this at this time. If they would have added UAB, UTSA, USAF and CSU or Army it would be a winner.
Instead we have to play wait and see with most of the CUSA adds. Even UTSA is right now a doormat in basketball. We need to be the bell cow of the new addition and hope the other's investments pay off. In fact WE have a LOT of work to do.
the hard work isn't over. It is just getting into full stride. Open those wallets folks.
Yep! The mere fact that they were able to maintain a conference makes them a winner here. They have long-term potential but sold their soul for it. The biggest winner is the SunBelt, though.
