EDIT oh its on twitter. Im not too shocked - one year left of eligibility let him make a run at it
You can't blame him! When CC brings in a transfer they typically start! Bryant over Hutchinson, Hamilton over Boone! Last season Hutchinson, and Boone started! This season they barely played! Baron May, why would he stay? If Bryant plays next season.........CC, is the decision maker! Look at Westmoreland, he killed it the first few games, and then never played!

Hutchinson was unavailable for a few weeks this season with a nasty turf-toe injury. Even if the intent was to let him battle for the position, he was unavailable to do so right through the heart of the season. That injury made the choice for CC, so you can't put Hutchinson's lack of play time soley on CC's shoulders.

the best ability is availability

also bovine has never met a fact about reality that he agrees with.

I really get under your skin, huh? You mention me in every thread. I’ll wear that badge of honor, I suppose.

I’m very confident that Hutch won’t transfer up unless a P5 needs a back up.

Good luck to him!!

Here are the true frosh we have offered. I believe most of these are unsigned.

Dijion Jennings 6'0 180 Reyonldsburg OH
Rashad Rochelle 6'1 175 Springfield IL
Brogan McCaughey 6'2 190 Cincinnati OH
Te'Sean Smoot 6'1 175 Springfield OH
Keyshawn Elliott 6'3 215 Richmond MO
James McCauley 6'2 200 Carrollton GA
Naquari Rogers 6'0 195 Virginia Beach VA

The real EMU QB of the future that I think the staff wants badly is 2023 Drew Viotto 6'4 220 out of Walled Lake.

That means we might use the portal to take a one and done for depth.

Of the names above Smoot is the most highly rated and has the most offers.

I'm completely undecided how I would handle if I were the HC.

Bryant is the starter. Will May or Smith establish themselves as heir apparent?

Three is pretty much the min. number of serviceable QBs a team would want on the squad.

I don't know who will succeed Bryant. It could be May or Smith or a transfer or someone who is signed n February.

Don't May and Smith deserve their chance in 2023? (back up in 2022).

I thought it would Roback over Bell. I was wrong. I thought it was Roback over Todd Porter. I was wrong. I thought after 2020 Hutchison would be the QB. I was wrong. Such is the life of figuring out EMU quarterbacks in the Creighton era. How many here thought Grissom would be our QB?

On the radio the other day Greg Steiner said Bryant and Hutchinson BOTH have two years left if they want them.

Pretty good bet this means Bryant will be back for at least one more year.

O/T but every time I watch a broadcast, they talk about the number of walk-ons that become big time contributors at EMU. It’s kind of a blessing and a curse. Sure, it’s great to get that kind of production, but…. What about the guys you’re actually recruiting?

Which bring me back to Hutch. Kid played his heart out for EMU. Wish him all the best.

I mean the quarterback room isnt empty as is. Right now you have Bryant as the entrenched starter, then three sophomores in May, Smith, and Kaminski - a PWO who had at least one FCS offer.

I'm sure a big focus of spring practice will be giving May, Smith, and Kaminski reps to see which one of them becomes the main back up.

We have several solid PWOs in this class. My pick to be the next "star" is Cole McElvany a QB/LB. Reminds me a bit of Hoying who was a QB in high school.

RE: Hutchinson is in the portal
So Mike Piatkowski is CC's QB coach. This bit from his bio hit me: "The quarterback for Head Coach Chris Creighton at Drake, Piatkowski set nearly every career passing mark in rewriting the Bulldogs’ record book and becoming one of the nation’s top passers."

With his background and now being the guy CC brought on to advise him on QB's and implement CC's game vision for the QB, basic human nature would lead Coach Pike to favor what he knows, namely a strong passing game. As we look at where the Eagles will go with QB's, I think under the current regime, they will favor QB's with strong passing potential, even to the point of choosing a less mobile QB with what they believe to be a strong arm (e.g. Bryant) over a more mobile QB with not quite the arm (e.g. Hutchinson). I would wonder how much Coach Pike might have played in Hutch's decision to transfer.

Very good. Us fans like the 'hot fudge sundae' QB - who can pass and who can run.

Like that hot fudge sundae - something hot and something cold. The best of all worlds. seemingly, although some running QBs aren't the greatest passers, so 'no free lunch, there.'

RE: Hutchinson is in the portal
I wonder what Hutch is looking for? He has only seven career starts and a 2-5 record. Personally, I think he has greater upside than Bryant but I doubt that many college coaches share my view.

Is he looking for a Power 5 school to be a back-up but enjoy the big program atmosphere like Ty Groce?

Is he hoping for an opportunity at a G5 school like Kent St where the incumbent is graduating?

Or is he thinking about a FCS school where he would be a God of sorts?

He also might be leveraging his final two years of eligibility to get a graduate degree at an institution with greater options.

I think Ty Groce made a huge mistake in his transfer to Butler if his ambition is to play pro basketball. 7.5 ppg and 4.1 rpg are hardly stats that electrify overseas teams. Had he stayed put, those numbers would have at least doubled and EMU would be a genuine MAC contender.

What do you guys think?

i think what he meant was to compete with each other.

EMU isnt in a position to recruit guys as 'heir apparent' the way some bigger schools might who have track records of developing star quarterbacks. not that CC hasnt had some good guarterbacks with good seasons - but he isnt lincoln riley.

I wouldnt be shocked if he adds another frosh qb on the next signing day - scholarship or otherwise - but id be pretty surprised if he brings on an upperclassmen transfer

Yes. Bryant is the starter. Who is the backup? Is it May? Is it Smith?

Will either May or Smith become the front runner for 2023?

What C.C., once burned, doesn't want to do is bring in another transfer QB to compete with Bryant.

Our QB situation should be next man up. If Bryant gets hurt, I hope that either May or Smith will prove worthy. Can't bring in a 5th or 6th QB and expect a bunch of happy campers...

If May or Smith prove incapable of being next man up for 2023, then go transfer December 2022.

My worst fear and has been for a while now, is that Hutchinson gets a good offer, maybe P5 and maybe Bryant gets P5 interest.

Just my unprofessional, un this and that opinion, but both might be capable of P5 interest.

I just hope we don't get the worst case scenario where both look for the 'grass is greener.'

I just hope if one leaves the other stays.
