It takes MORE than playing or beating a big opponent. I talked to a lot of non - UAB people that had ZERO clue we were playing WVU or even playing at Legacy. That is a problem. We can blame a lot of things but until we fix our non-existent marketing that PAID attendance we saw will be a high water mark in basketball.

We wouldn’t even promote the WVU game at the prior games in Bartow leading up to last weekend. Why would we not promote during the conference championship weekend, NBA games, Monday and Thursday night football, or every night there is a college basketball game on ESPN? Didnt hear any Ads on the radio, either.

Good question.

Absolutely marketing is very important. I think we would all agree it's easier to market a good team playing quality opponents. What worries me is that poor attendance showing at Legacy will prompt many UAB fans to say let's just accept playing all our home games at Bartow because we can't bring anyone downtown. There are many things that need to be done. My point is and has always been let's strive to reach the level we once achieved and stop accepting mediocrity.

Like i said earlier UAB is looking for someone to lead the Marketing team because the one we had has moved on to something else. We have not had anyone for marketing outside of whatever student interns for a month or more. If you know someone who can do the job and do it well go to ziprecruiter and apply. This will be a very important job that the athletic department will be filling hopefully sooner rather than later.

The problem is more than a few months old. Our Athletic Director does not want to invest in it. It would not matter who is in charge of Marketing. This is a big problem.

Why does he not want to invest in marketing? That seems quite dumb and short sighted. He seems like a good AD, so why would he make such a weird decision?
