Maybe more importantly, what finally caused him to realize he needed a change last year? Was he forced? Or was it just connections he wanted that became available?
Not knowing the inner workings, I can only imagine scenarios. A very likely lame-duck HC needs to convince "better" caoches with whom he likely has had no previous professional experience in to work for him for what, a year. Who with a lot of choices hires into a lame duck situation unless they have a GOOD chance of replacing the duck?
This might be one way for a new AD to bring in the next HC except, there is no new AD.
Update email I received yesterday from the UT President says the new AD will be in place in February.
"Our goal is to announce the next AD for Rocket Athletics in February."
Let's hope they can realize that goal.
Thats seems odd and rushed as search committee just started last month, and 3 months or so for important VP position is fast, and that may not be a good sign. Plus MOB retires in April (although I suspect he has enough unused vacation time that he could depart 1-2 months before). Regardless of the process and timeline lets hope it is a serious true national search and UT secures a great next AD. (and if in place by as early as Feb, not sure that really changes anything in terms of Candles job for 2022 season)
For comparison's sake; WMU had no problem bringing in an experienced new AD to replace an old standing one. They did it before Christmas.
I read the President’s email about the job description for the new AD position. Pretty concerning to me that there was NO mention of the new AD’s commitment to Athletic program excellence. Mentioned a commitment to just about everything else but this.

I don’t want to mention the team in scarlet and gray in this forum but that’s a team that lost two games. Went to the Rose Bowl and defeated a very good team from Utah. But Ryan Day isn’t messing around. He’s not going to settle for anything but the B1G Ten title and a National Championship. He has made at least four coaching changes. And here we are in Toledo once again settling for middle of the pack again. And that pack is one of the weakest in the nation

Heard the President say at the women's game on Wednesday ( in the presidential box) that he hopes we can work on the diversity of the department and reverse the budget outlay (now $20M UT subsidy out of $30M budget to $20 M from fund raising and $10M budget subsidy) for the department. Someone mentioned the CMU AD with her pedigree and great national contacts and he said "we're getting the same candidates". He said titles go without saying.

Not a valid comparison they can pay their new DC 1.9 million can bring in anyone he wants with cost not being the object. You have 20 million to give to the football team so they can do the same? I for one do not. Mac will always be a coaching developmental league. We do not have to like it but that is how it is going to be. Who are they going to get within their budget to be an upgrade. If you know some one please call Candle and let him know.

My point is, he’s not even trying to correct the problems on offense. The biggest of them, the O line. At least not openly.

Dan Larson NDSU OL Coach
I would have said Sam Gregg prior to S.Miss hiring him in December.

Candle has brought in a new coach. No, not a new offensive line coach.

Perhaps since tOSU has a football budget larger that UTs entire athletics budget they can pick and choose amongst the best coaches available in the college game…very much unlike Toledo.

Has nothing to do with money. We have one of the worst offensive lines in terms of pass protection in the country. I don't blame the players. Horrible coaching. Good Mount Union Candle buddy.

My point is nothing is being done with the OL and our losing ways. There has to be an answer to this that doesn’t include paying an arm and a leg.
He’s not making the moves that need to be made. Look how long it took Candle to fix the Defense.
