SBJ's annual column of sports media predictions for 2022.
Here's SBJ's annual column of sports media predictions for 2022.
Here are my best guesses on what happens with the NFL, Sunday Ticket, Big Ten, ESPN, MLS and, of course, Sinclair. https://t.co/DurowknGp6

Big Ten signs deals with CBS and Fox.

Fox, which owns 51% of Big Ten Network, will step up to take a bigger package with that conference than it has had previously. CBS wants high-quality college football games for its Saturday afternoon window. Fox and CBS will have the first pick of games every other week starting in 2023, but Fox will carry the Michigan- Ohio State game every year. NBC and WarnerMedia will make big runs at the Big Ten, too.

SEC leaves CBS a year early.

After CBS signs its Big Ten deal, it will negotiate a deal that allows the SEC to move to ESPN a year early. CBS’s SEC deal runs through the 2023 season.

Big Noon has been a huge success, even though many laughed and said it never would be. They have taken viewers away from college gameday and they have given themselves a conference to call their own, the Big Ten. Just as Notre Dame has NBC and the SEC has ESPN, the BIG has FOX and it's a beautiful marriage. CBS added to the mix, if true, will make life even sweeter. I'm sure the SEC can't get out of the CBS contract soon enough, such a lowball deal for that fine conference.

Don't forget about BTN through all of this too. It's doing pretty well with numbers like 1.95 million for the Iowa/Nebraska game and I believe there were a total of 5 games with over 1 million viewers?

I'm not the least bit concerned if this is the end of ESPN and the Big Ten, good riddance!
