I think the OP is thinking of the rivalry USF had with WVU in the BE.

I think the OP is thinking of the rivalry USF had with WVU in the BE.

Actually I thought he was asking if there was any conference overlap between WVU and UCF.

WVU left the BE in 2012 before any of the "new" schools ever came on-board. Louisville and Rutgers each played in the last season of the BE (which UCF won) and then the first season of the AAC (which was a three way tie between Louisville, UC, and UCF?).

For the bolded portion:
No, UCF went 8-0 in conference play in 2013 and 12-1 for the season. With wins @ Penn St, @ #8 Louisville, vs Houston, vs Rutgers and the only loss was by 3 pts vs #12 South Carolina. We ultimately went to the Fiesta bowl and beat #6 Baylor (hi friends).

If UCF had pulled out the win against South Carolina it would of been interesting to see how the BCS rankings would of placed an undefeated UCF team with that resume on the last AQ year of the Big East. FSU was the only undefeated team at the end of 2013.

It was a long time ago... So maybe it was 2013. But UCF went to the Fiesta Bowl on the last year of the BE's BCS contract. And WVU had departed the the conference before UCF started playing in the Conference. (WVU's departure was very similar to Uconn's departure in that they left the conference immediately to transition to the new Conference at the start of the next season.)

But the main point remains: UCF and WVU have not been conference mates until whenever they begin play in the Big XII. I did not remember that WVU played UCF back when UCF was in CUSA and WVU was in the BE. But that's not really much of a "history." Don't take that in any way as a dismissal or personally. It just is what it is; UCF and WVU will be a "new" relationship when it comes to being Conference mates. Maybe that turns into something major...maybe not. Not every series becomes a rivalry, nor does a series have to be a "rivalry" to be a great series. Many people have said that UC-WVU ought to be a "rivalry" because we have had a few great/exciting games together. (I'd argue that UC-Pitt should have/could have been a great "rivalry" but nobody on either side really describes it as such.) WVU's old "rival" in the (First) New Big East was Louisville...but they're not available right now.

Will UCF-WVU turn into "something"? Time will tell. Will UC-WVU turn into something beyond "travel partners"? Time will tell.

That's the beauty of a "new" conference...there is a lot to be discovered and new stories to be written. I hope that the B12 plays things smarter than the (old) New Big East did.

I think UCF & WVU become rivals because WVU fans have a history of invading Florida (Miami, usf). They'll travel well plus there are lots of WVU fans in the state of Florida. I could also see the Kansas schools and Iowa State doing the same. I'm pretty sure that they will take over our basketball arena in January and February.

Cincinnati may not be a rival for WVU, but them Eeers fans that used to come down to Nippert for a football game sure seemed pretty jacked up back in the Old Big East days. It was worth the price of admission for my crew, just to see what WVU fan was gonna' do next....You guys may not care that much about beating us, but I can guarantee you that Cincinnati fans get all worked up about beating you.

RE: Who do you consider an in-conference rival?
UCF has no rival...

UCF has no history with the league members. Houston at 10 total games is the longest series...

UCF Record vs:
Houston 7-3-0 (10 games)
Cincinnati 3-4-0 (7 games)
BYU 1-2-0 (3 games)
West Virginia 0-2-0 (2 games)
Baylor 1-0-0 (1 game)
Kansas State 0-1-0 (1 game)

UCF has never played:
Oklahoma State
Kansas
Iowa State
Texas Tech
TCU

The series ended too abruptly for it to get too juicy on either side. I will say this, it did start to heat up at the end (2008-2011). During that time I was living in Columbus, and I was finding that a lot of people in Central Ohio took interest in the series since WVU is not that far away (also when UC played Pitt but that is another story). I have a feeling the eyeballs in Ohio (not jut Cincinnati) will be tuned in to UC/WVU games going forward.

I doubt it would ever turn into a rivalry but I would imagine the first time UH goes to Morgantown, the WVU fan base will be fired up. Its always fun to root against a former coach.

For the WVU fans that live down around Huntington and the southern part of WV, Cincinnati is a lot closer than Morgantown. Pitt fans are tards, and they don't travel. WVU fans travel, plus they've got Huggs coaching their basketball. I think most Bearcat fans look forward to renewing with WVU. If we could just get UofL to come along we would really have the band back together....

Don’t get me wrong, I think UC/wvu could really become something to look forward to..and yes I think the XII made an enormous mistake not taking Louisville and Cincinnati at the same time wvu and tcu were added. That would have made so much sense

As soon as we play Huggs the rivalry with WVU will be "on" LOL. IMO, it won't take long for this to become one of the better ones in the B12. We'll also be the closest B12 team to WVU - about a 5 hour drive away. Not too shabby.

From a Houston perspective, I can get behind this for everyone but the Kansas schools and ISU. I’m ambivalent towards them. I’d feel the same about the Hillbillies except for the Dana connection—which should add a little bit of fuel to the fire.

I'd say Houston's in-conference rival is Texas Tech, closely followed by our two current AAC and future Big XII brethren Cincinnati and UCF. We have history with the other Texas schools as well.

I don’t view Cincy or UH as rivals at all. Just because we’ve had some good games doesn’t make us rivals. Cincy’s rival is WVU in the new Big 12. Our one true rival is USF, there’s genuine hate there. As much as I dislike the cows, I think we should continue the rivalry cross conference like UF/FSU do. Not sure our administration will give them a chance to beat us after what they’ve done to us in the past with the Big East though. Guess we will just kick back during rivalry weekend lmao

My thought has always been a team is not a rival until your game becomes personal. For most, your rival is a school who is not too geographically far from you-- there are fans of those schools within your family, at work, your neighbors, etc. You end up hating those people because they annoying and in your face everyday.

For Cincinnati WVU is close enough to where that can happen. There's a few WVU fans down here (especially due to the Bob Huggins factor) and along southern Ohio there has always been a contingent who wear their colors. I have enjoyed playing UCF and Houston, aside for some annoying posters on twitter, it is just not personal enough for me to declare it a rivalry.
