We do. Sam Houston at #7 in the country and Southern Miss at #31 shows how incredibly flawed this ranking system is.
Sorry but Sam Houston has the 9th ranked SOS with 2 power 5 wins to teams who have done incredibly well since playing SHSU, and Sam's only loss was to a Nevada squad whose only loss was in OT to Kansas St. Sam Houston worked hard for that SOS and to be a only 1 loss team is really impressive.
Credit to Sam Houston who HAS done well early on, and I look forward to your addition as a basketball school if you can keep it up. Here's how they stack up in all the other ranking metric sites:
Kenpom: 91
Barttorvik: 73
Haslametrics: 81
Evan Miya: 91
Sagarin: 99
If you or anyone else thinks SHSU is a top 10 team in America, it may be well past time for a doctor's visit. Also, Southern Miss who appears here at #31 just lost to Northwestern State. The NET ratings tend to even out towards the end of the season, but the early releases are just a complete joke.
Towards the end of the season, they will definitely not be top 10. If it weren't for our SOS, we would not be that high, but we should cause problems for other teams in the WAC this season. We have a mixed bag on this team when it comes to age so hopefully, we'll keep it up but for now based on the NET metrics SHSU has earned the 7th spot and we'll gladly take it. And no that does not mean I think they need to be ranked in the AP top 25 (Honestly think we could win every single game from here on out and not be ranked in the top 25 because we are not a brand name basketball school). I'll take the early season accolades while we can get them and hope to add value to C USA next season.
Nice honest and realistic assessment. Enjoy being where you are. It only helps build your basketball cred. You know a ton of people are scanning thru the NET and stopping at number 7 and saying “whoa,” how is Sam Houston up that high, and then looking at your schedule and knowing how!

RE: 2021-22 NET rankings-current vs future conf affiliations - Men
Jax State had a near-complete team turnover this year, so that's why we're ranked lower. The problem's been further exacerbated by injuries and the fact one or two high impact transfers won't be able to play until after the end of the semester.
Granted, we're running out of time to make a big improvement in our ranking before the conference schedule starts, but we're a MUCH better team than that #235 might suggest. If things go well during conference play, we might improve to the 150-175 range by the end of the regular season. Possibly higher, but I just don't see much opportunity remaining for high profile nonconference wins. That's probably our ceiling for 2022-23.
