WAC FOOTBALL 2022 SEASON
Need a thread to talk about next season.

SFA DC SCOTT POWER will be the new DC at Louisiana Tech under new Head Coach Sonny Cumbie.

Also rumors that SFA OL Coach NATHAN YOUNG maybe headed to Louisiana Tech as well.

How much are your football coaches paid? Just curious.

HEAD COACH - $260,000 (Colby Carthel)
OC/DC - $112,500 each (Scott Power) (Matt Storm)
OL - $72,250 (Nathan Young)

Everybody else is $50K+ give or take

Power will probably get around $200K+ at LA Tech and Young (if he goes to LA. Tech) around $130K basically doubling their salaries.

Carthel came to SFA in 2019 and these are the coaches who have left so far.

DC - SCOTT POWER > DC LOUISIANA TECH
RC - PHILIP VIGIL > WESTERN NEW MEXICO HEAD COACH
OWR - LEONARD HANKERS > 49ERS (NFL)
OWR - MALCOLM KELLY > WR TCU
OC - BRIAN NATKIN > CARDINALS (NFL)
DB - > FREDDIE BANKS > DB NEVADA > DC MONTANA STATE

Carthel is a winner and he attracts winners. Not surprised at the success the coaches are having being associated to Colby.

RE: WAC FOOTBALL 2022 SEASON
One dynamic to keep an eye on is Sam Houston's roster as we head into '22.

Due to the success of the program and the fact they are still competing actually may keep some student-athletes in the fold (due to scholarship, opportunity availability as most student-athletes are hopping into the portal now), but I do think the inability to compete for bowls or the playoffs these next two years (after the current season) could lead a few guys to be on their way. COVID and the extra year alters things as well.

The other thing to keep an eye on is Sam Houston's coaching staff. There's some that believe KC Keeler will ride off into the sunset. Not 100% sure that is going to happen but it does look like OC Ryan Carty will become the head coach at Delaware at the conclusion of the playoff run.

As far as we know and there is quite a few of things going on with the transitional schools (JMU, Jax St and SHSU), they are considered a 'FCS Independent' playing a WAC football schedule but ineligible for playoff selection. In 2023, they will be a FBS Independent playing a C-USA schedule (not bowl eligible) and in 2024, a C-USA schedule with C-USA membership.

RE: WAC FOOTBALL 2022 SEASON
Pretty significant news pertaining to the '22 season as arguably the best QB in the league for next year will be transferring out - Cameron Ward of Incarnate Word. It is not a surprise by any means with Eric Morris leaving UIW, but pretty big blow to that program.

KC Keeler said in his press conference this week that Cam Ward is a 'P5 Quarterback'.

Dixie State (FCS - UT): Sources tell FootballScoop Dixie State offensive coordinator Kelly Bills has resigned. Dixie State will be known at Utah Tech starting in 2022.

Sun Belt is pushing hard for a JMU waiver. Don't be surprised if JSU and SHSU aren't doing the same to get eligible right away.

The waiting period never made sense for the FCS > FBS move, since all athletes are already DI athletes, and have been playing by the DI rules.

This is in contrast to D2>DI, since D2 has different standards than DI.

Sam Houston and Jacksonville State can certainly ride the JMU coattails on this one and as I've said in other threads, the three schools if they are giving an early entry by a year can utilize each other to meet the FBS scheduling requirements beyond what games they would be getting from their respective conferences.

This will all work itself out by mid-January I'd suspect at which time we'll see a lot of wiggling and shaking with FBS schedules in the year of games being contested which in some ways is exciting for us schedule fanatics!

RE: WAC FOOTBALL 2022 SEASON
I do not mean to start rumors but with what we have seen with Zappe (HBU) and Ward (UIW), you can certainly make a name for yourself in FCS and then go on to the FBS level...

So with that being the case, do we not think that Trae Self and/or Xavier Gipson won't appear in the transfer portal? It really stinks that FCS is becoming a minor league where even the top punter in FCS (from Montana) is going to FBS (Nebraska).
