P6 comes to fruition…
Congrats Cincinnati, AAC and Mike Aresco! Even though UC and UH are leaving, this is still a product of years of pushing the narrative by Mike and teams continuing to buy in and improve. If Cincy can pull this off and Aresco continues to veto “entitlement,” the G5 label goes away. What an overall accomplishment!

If realignment hadn’t happened again, it would be hard for anyone to argue that the American wasn’t P5.
I truly believe that before our next tv deal, we would have seen the best of the MWC come over and there would have been no doubt. You add Boise,
BYU, CSU and AF to this conference and it’s better than the PAC12 and ACC

RE: P6 comes to fruition…
Kudos to Aresco, but three times now we've seen the top challenger league picked off.
CUSA 1.0 was better than the MWC. Then the Big East and MWC raided it for Louisville, Cincy, USF, TCU, Marquette & DePaul.
Next, MWC 2.0 was king of the hill with Utah, BYU and TCU. Then those three got better deals to leave, including two P5 bids.
Finally, American 1.0 was king of the hill with UCF, Cincy & Houston winning NY6 bowls and/or making playoff runs. Then the Big 12 raided it.
Who will be the next king of the hill challenger league? Will there be any more P5 openings? Time will tell.

Agree. Had our best programs not been leaving, you'd see fan interest, media interest, and $$ all increasing because of Cincy's run in to the playoffs. Would have legitimized the league's status. Now I think we are in 'do-over' mode.

ACC?!?!?!
The ACC isn't much beyond Clemson right now and Florida State in years past.

We North Texas fans are thrilled to now have a future commissioner in Mike Aresco.
I know that many of you in the AAC are disappointed to be losing 3 of your most successful programs. That are tough shows to fill. However, I truly believe that being in the AAC with Aresco should eventually raise the quality of all the new schools coming in. I know that North Texas has been prepping themselves to move up for the last 10 years when it comes to budgets and facilities. If our school continues on this path of dedication to sports, I do not think you will be disappointed.

Remember June?
6+6 playoff expansion seemed a done deal.
NCAA Constitutional Convention had the potential to lessen the impact of "autonomy"
Add Cincinnati's success and CFP slot this season to that, and it is all about the P6.
Unfortunately in between UT/OU ran for the SEC and the second order effects pushed the American back to the starting line.
Time to do it again. But frankly starting off better than, say, 2013 when everyone was predicting the total demise of the American.

Agree. The CFP will expand, as I showed in other thread the PAC with two appearances in 8 years and the new Big12 with only UC making it this year making it will be stupid to not expand them. They as well as ACC will push for automatic bids for their champions. So I think eventually you will see an agreement on that and the playoffs will expand.
The new AAC will still have best money and tv exposure of any nonP league so it’s schools will have the best shot at rising and keeping that hold on 6th best champion which will in future give them more access than we currently have.

That was crushing. But again, as you are saying, it is always what will happen.
I think UTSA was the best add by the American, with the most long terms sustainability. I would have just added them, and UAB, and stopped there.

Houston MOVES up in final CFP rankings after CCG loss.
#20, ahead of Louisiana and SDSU.

This league has always been great at the top of both football and basketball. It's the middle/bottom in those sports that has been killer, especially in the non-con

His next big sell is going to have to be getting current numbers and the newbies to invest or keep investing so the conference doesn’t experience a significant drop once Houston Cincinnati and Central Florida leave

It's not going to be that big of a sell, all you have to do is look at the results. Cincifreakinatti is in the CFP playoff!!!!

I think they can do it. The blueprint somewhat already existed from Louisville and others, but now it's even more clear. If you invest and win on the field, people will take notice and you will have opportunities to do big things, whether in this league or another one. With those 3 leaving, I see an opportunity for someone to say "we're next".

UTSA hasn't been around long and the long term is a question to be answered.
UTSA is pretty mediocre in basketball.
Strong AAC schools like Houston, UC, SMU, and UCF have made noise in both football and basketball.
