"1-7 at best" is laughable but hey if that is what we'd do then that's exactly what I want. Expose the weaknesses right away and address them instead of going 32-4 against a schedule where we should go 32-4.

Usually teams in their first year of FBS transition count as an FCS game, so a win vs them wouldn't count towards bowl eligibility if they have another FCS team on the schedule. If the rumor that JMU would count as an FBS game next year then that would make things a lot easier.

Hopefully this works out for all indeed. Would be a nice financial boost for the 3 CUSA schools in particular from what i have read as all 3 are set to "forfeit" revenue this year and next year which is guesstimated at $1.5 million per year. So just losing this year plus combined with what we would receive in SB payout in 2022-23 season of at least (?) $1.5 million it would be at least a $3mil swing in next year's budget. And if it does happen that will make at least the basketball and baseball schedules next season interesting with 16 teams.

Basketball plays eveyone once and then 3 teams a second time to get 18 SB games in. The top 12 makes the SB tournament which possibly adds some excitement to teams 10-14 at the end of the regular season to qualify for the tournament. And just like I'm mentioning below for baseball it helps to possibly eliminate a bubble team from playing an RPI team of 300+ RPI/NET in round 1 or 2 of conf tournament.

Baseball plays 7 "division" series and then 3 crossover series to get to 30 SB games. But then for the tournament I'm assuming just the top 8 (so half) make the tournament. If that's the case it would be helpful in possibly getting an at-large or 2 berths as this in all likelihood eliminates teams with RPIs of worse than 150 range or so from knocking our bubble teams who could play their way in with a win or two vs top 100 teams.

I think in basketball it would be home/home with the 6 division teams=12 games plus play 6 crossover teams once (3 home and 3 away)=6 games. That makes 18 conference games. You would miss 1 crossover team each year but would pick that one up the next year.

In baseball 10 series (6 division opponents every year- 3 home and 3 away) plus 4 crossover (2 home and 2 away). Rotate crossover opponents every year like this:
Year 1 play 1, 2, 3. and 4
Year 2 play 5, 6 7 and 1
Year 3 play 2. 3. 4, and 5

And on and on

I was going with the assumption of 16 teams next year or have UTA and UALR been told they could be asked to leave it the incoming class arrives in fall of 2022???

My understanding is they will be gone by next year but I have not seen that officially. Yep if they are here it makes for different scheduling than with 14

Going from Morehead State and a weaker-than-usual CAA to the Sun Belt East in one season might be too much too soon. If they did run a full SBC schedule, do they go for four FCS bunnies, or are they going to go all in on an FBS style slate?

JMU should be able to make a run on the SBC West, maybe add them over there for their first season and keep Troy East.

I believe the JMU not till 23 is an assumption. I am operating that they will play 8 SBC opponents next year
