Never announced, but heard at yesterday's game from a Tribe official that he'd had limited pre-season the two weeks prior
with some kind of injury; he could scrimmage but hampered.
Agreed that Connor looked much more comfortable. Is he finally settling in and getting more comfortable as the offensive fulcrum, or was it due to the opponent? I'm hoping it's the former, because it has seemed Connor has struggled to get good looks against our D1 opponents. An injury could explain things as it seemed he had trouble getting separation in the early going.

The early play from our young bigs is a welcome surprise. I never imagined that they would be the most consistent part of our offensive line up.

The shooting woes are a head scratcher and prevent us from generating meaningful runs. Especially when the offense is designed to get 3pt looks and it appears most of the guys are given a green light. Is it a confidence thing? Are guys tight because of how poorly we've played/shot? I've seen poor shooting teams. This shouldn't be one. This team has better shooters than what they are putting up.

The biggest issue is the consistent high level of unforced turnovers. The kind that lead to leak out easy buckets on the other end. The kind that cut short meaningful possessions and give the opponent extra opportunities. I'm not talking about great defensive plays, though I hate them too. I'm talking about losing the handle on the perimeter, lazy passes, or forcing passes that just aren't there. These need to be cleaned up if there is any shot of meaningful game play. I do think unforced TOs are a direct result of youth and inexperience. The speed of the game and tempo are a whole different world than high school. I do expect the sophomores to be better adjusted, which they haven't shown. They still seem to have that freshman overwhelmed look. Current freshmen should improve as the season progresses, IMO.

I don't follow recruiting at all. Is the current staff emphasizing shooting when scouting and recruiting players?

The past staff certainly focused on shooting when recruiting.

MB lost their opener to Big South member Winthrop by 32 points. All their other losses were either in OT or within 6 points. Just some context on their season so far.

The only aspect of the game not affected by what level the opponent is, is free throw shooting. Tribe went 13-15 and one of the misses was by Austin Washburn who is unlikely to shoot another FT the rest of the year. It was especially good that Wight was 4-4 and Kochera was 5-5 since they are likely to be shooting the most free throws the rest of the way.

My impression is that the players the staff recruit are “balanced.” Tyler Rice even described his game as such in an interview conducted during his recruitment.

They had a barn burner against Randolph College in Lynchburg. Lost 118-115 in OT. Serious track meet.
