Dinner Conversation tonight , how many Presidents have Colleges or Universities named for them. Came up with 5 , maybe a 6th.

Did you count Trump University? Or are you only counting legitimate establishments?
There are, I believe, eleven. The attendance today was 307. The capacity is 900. In a county of 1/4 million people you would think that there would be at least 900 college basketball junkies. Of course, i don't know what COVID-19 issues there may be.

They are in Florida - there are no COVID issues or restrictions.

I think they outdrew the tournament in Cancun..

These tournaments exist to prop up the tourism industry during slow seasons. I know there are a ton of KSU alumni in Florida (Ohioians in general). Would've been a good idea for Athletics to work with the Alumni Assoc on getting our alumni to the game. Opportunity lost, as per friggen usual.

It's funny to look at the website for the Naples Invitational compared to the website for the Gulf Coast Showcase that Akron's in.
http://naplesinvitational.com/
http://gulfcoastshowcase.com/

It's like both tournaments chose different stock images of a pier for their website. Gotta love that we're playing in the Championship game of ours while Akron is playing in the last place game of theirs. Seems like they have a massive void a PG left by LCJ's departure. Could be a long year for them.

I'm surprised Wright State lost to Long Beach State in the 7th/8th place game. Long Beach prior to today seemed the weakest in the tournament. The ugly blowouts continue. UT Martin defeated Carver College 103-43. Navy defeated Washington College of MD 89-40. I understand why such games are played, but they are usually brutal to watch.

Expecting a high intensity game tonight. The over/under is 134 & if I was inclined to bet, I would take the over.

If memory serves me well, the attendance has actually been better than that one tournament in Puerto Rico several years ago. If I recall correctly, one game had like 35 souls in attendance.

Way too many turnovers. Too many quick 3s. Only 2 assists in the 1st half.

Seven rebounds - total - from 5 baseline players vs. ETSU. No need to post the score. Odusipe, needs to get well ASAP.

Hah , only legit 4 year schools
During Tourney I regularly checked Naples and Ft Myers newspapers,
Virtually zero coverage. Of Note , OSU BB and FB covered like it was Columbus. Equal coverage to Fla and Fla St. That partly explains lack
of Attendance.
Yes , lots of KSU alums in SW Fla. But since alumni in NE Ohio particularly
CLE are not courted why should they bother with Fla during a holiday week
KSU alumni Assoc has always been a bit snobby in my view

Obviously, it's WAY too early to even begin to get a read on this team and how they will fare. But to me, so far, it looks like "Senderoff at Kent State 11.0." My guess is that they'll be good, entertaining and competitive. Nothing more, but nothing less. Time will tell.

Personally worried about the rebounding: Just can't win without good board work. JHam should be much better than what he has shown. Ditto for Beck ... Johnson, VCD and Hornbeack should all be at least 4 rpg per 20 minutes. Just haven't seen it.

Kent doesn't miss Pippen's scoring nearly as much as his work on the boards.

Let's hope Hornbeak and Odusipe step up in that department as the season wears on. If not ...

Agree. And a healthy Garcia and Odusipe would give us a better read. It's been so many years since Kent State was THE dominant team in the MAC I would hope that I would have gotten past that and lowered my expectations by now. But, the 13 year period 1998/99 through 2010/11 spoiled me rotten. Permanently, I fear. And, I'm not blaming Senderoff. I think that given the current basketball realities we live in he's done an outstanding job keeping the program above water.

Forgot about Garcia ... he could help a bit on the boards too. I mean, two SEC transfers who should give a moderate to big boost on the court and neither is healthy enough yet to make an impact yet ... and the team is still competitive.

Hopefully by mid-December both with be closing in on 100-percent healthy and in the rotation on the court.

Garcia was productive at Georgia for averaging only 17.1 minutes per game. If he gets healthy, it will be interesting to see who he takes minutes from.

RE: Naples
I’m not sure how good this team can/will be. I liked what I saw, especially from Carry, over the last three games. But despite the “realities” or the current state of sustaining a mid major program, or all the other defeatist excuses that have become commonplace in certain circles, i hold the following truths to be self evident:
Building a winning culture is still very possible in college sports.
Sustaining said culture takes hard work, but is very possible as well.
Winning at a high level year after year is a direct result of both of the above.
Excuses are a dime a dozen, as our apologists.

Go Flashes!

RE: Naples
In college basketball, it is SO difficult to know how good anyone will become. For example, a friend of mine got all upset when Ball State beat both Kansas and UCLA early in the season. Kent State, of course, lost to Youngstown early that season. By the time they met, Kent State destroyed Ball State from the opening tip and won by 27. Early in the season at a tournament outside of Pittsburgh, Kent State lost the opening game to Hofstra and didn't get to play Pitt. Pitt would have won by 20 points, though. They looked that much better. We all know what happened when KSU and Pitt finally met.
