Theres always the CAAZone…
Wait nope. Nope. That’s not there anymore. Guess this is our spot where the 9 of us dedicated fans can chat UNCW sports and occasionally disagree and laugh at each other.
Take it or leave it, sport. We’re the best you got. It’s like family. Occasionally we dig in on each other, but we don’t let outsiders have the same luxury.

RE: Offense(ive)
Duke and Gonzaga are OFFENSIVE! Crazy game. I do like what the Zags are trying to do but the Devils have good eliminators at the rim.
Getting back to UNCW, I do like what I've seen from our post players defensively, especially Kelly. Hope these guys get back soon.
All y'all know hoops so I don't have to get into it too much but I too have been frustrated with our O too. I think that it will come around eventually because we do have shooters that haven't got their feet wet yet. Given a zone, Hawks need to hit the high post but not settle. It may be good to look for Sims at the high post and let him read. The D has to pick poison and decide. Good things happen when Jaylen catches the ball high post in a zone situation. He can elect to drive, dish or hit FT J.
If it's a man, I'm okay running it through our posts players preferably after a reversal or even a weave action and letting the post decide what to do (some good decisions in the last home game) after a 45 degree entry to get some inside-out action for good looks or a post attack. Regardless, there needs to be players cutting and giving options. We have all seen to much standing around on the offensive end of the floor so cutting and being available for cuts needs to be integrated. Standard offense.
Hope the guys get healthy, get a chance to lift some weights and be ready for a good Norfolk State team. It will be good if we can get TO's for points but this team will only go as far as their half-court offense efficiency allows it. Gotta play great D but we do need to execute better. Play for your teammates and if that's giving yourself up to create, do so. A drive and dish is very easy to do and a great way to get assists. As y 'all know, it's easier to give yourself up when you're a 3 ball threat so our PG need to be able to show that 3 ball. That gets overlooked but is a big thing.

Offense(ive)
We don’t play again until Dec 1. That should be more than enough time for this team to get healthy, and be ready to play.
In the end, we were told this team would be putting up a lot of points, playing a very fast paced game, and causing chaos for the other team on defense. At this point, our points scored average hasn’t been close to resembling that system. The ball sticks entirely too much, and our shooting has already been well covered on this board, much to the chagrin of some here. A lot of bad shots being taken, and a lot of misses on open looks. If that doesn’t change drastically, we are looking like a last place team in a terrible conference.
There’s been a lot said about our defensive improvement, but like 210 said… the numbers there don’t look good either. So what gives? Where are we actually improving?
These are my concerns. At this point, I think we’re looking at 6-8 wins this season. Six being the likely reality, and eight being generous by stealing a game or two in conference that we shouldn’t.

Good post CG. Yep, ball definitely stuck too much early on and still not quite there. Hope they can figure it out!

RE: Offense(ive)
It's quite a feat to shoot this bad in every category. If we had a bunch of big men, I could at least excuse the poor FT shooting, but we don't. We are really bad at every aspect of offense at this point. I showed how we weren't getting blown out by limiting turnovers and offensive rebounding, but I guess we got to see what our offense looks like when we fail there as well.
Here are the percentages in each category, in each game, excluding Guilford and Francis Marion:
FG% 32.7 - 39.3 - 34.4 - 39.4 - 37.9 - 28.8 - 33.8
3pt% 19 - 26.9 - 25 - 30.6 - 25.9 - 26.1 - 31.6
FT% 45.5 - 63.6 - 92.3 - 50 - 63.6 - 64.7 - 68.4

RE: Offense(ive)
We are on pace to get into last place in every possible category of offense in the CAA
Scoring offense #9 63.2 ppg
Free Throw % #10 64.5%
FG% #10 36.3%
3pt% #10 27.7%
Assists #10 10.9 per game
And some other near last place categories to boot
#9 in 3pt fg% on defense at 39.2%
#9 def rebounding 38.8 per game
It doesn't even seem possible that one team could be so bad in literally every offensive category. At a minimum a team that is guard oriented shouldn't be last in FT%, right?
But we are #1 in blocked shots.
Phillips is the only player on the team in the top 15 in FG%...but we need to sit him half the game so he can get better at being an "off guard". Ya' know, because we are so good on offense.....

RE: Offense(ive)
If you really want perspective on how bad this team is just compare it to the last year Buzz Peterson was here in 2013-2014 before he was fired. The almost identical statistics are eerie:
2013 - 63.1 ppg, FG 40.2%, 3pt 27.3%, FT's 65.5%, Assists 10.8 per game
2021 - 63.2 ppg, FG 36.3%, 3 pt 27.7%, FT's 64.5%, Assists 10.9 per game

We must be a tick better at assists because of that Sims guy playing PG, don't ya think
