8-6 Final Tally

Congratulations to all the teams that won in this years Challenge!

It was awesome watching the games...pretty even all the way around. The two OT games felt like March.

There are 2 teams in college basketball that you never count out, Michigan State and Syracuse! Regardless of how they start out the season they always magically find a way to get things right. At least more times than not.

It's always a great tournament to watch early in the season. I will say that Nebraska/NC State game was just weird, all the way from the announcers to the game itself!

Big Ten CONFERENCE play begins tonight!

We start with a big one as two unbeaten teams tip off, Iowa at Purdue! If Purdue wins they will likely be the #1 team in the country next week. I don't believe they have ever been ranked #1 in the AP poll. And I've just jinxed them.

My only disappointment was that BTN cut directly from the Rutgers game to Michigan v Wisconsin and I was able to see if Stephen Bardo still thought Purdue was going to win by double digits.

Egg all over my face over what has just happened in the NCAA. Maybe it was the fact that there seemed to be no real elite team during the regular season but I thought that reflected the quality of the teams. Little did I know that others would feast on Big Ten teams. And, to boot, the Cinderella of this year had to be the one to knock the last Big Ten team out.

Where did it all go wrong?

Recycled answer:
Your teams were worn down with the weekly grind of SEC football Big Ten basketball.

For a minute there I thought I was at the ACC board.

Hey, what are the ACC fans doing here mocking us? Do I go to your board and ... oh wait never mind.

As long as the SEC fans aren't here, I'm good. And the Pac-12, oh wait, that would require them to have fans. Does Bill Walton have a CSNBBS account?

Mocking? Never! If I was going to mock the Big Ten, I'd talk about how slow, plodding, and unathletic the players are - but I didn't do that... Honestly, I really do feel like the Big Ten regular season is a grind (although no more so than the ACC regular season).

Best wishes in the ice hockey tournament!

Ouch!
I had a very thought out response for you Mark, but I'm assuming this may be about schmolik always posting in the ACC forum? I'll leave you two lovebirds alone.

RE: CBB - 2021-22
So you guys don't think badly of me, this is how I truly feel:

The Big Ten is a very good basketball conference with more top 25 level depth than the ACC. What the ACC has is a handful of top 10 type teams, including a couple of top 5 types (UNC and Duke) and a few who can reach that level every few years (Louisville, Syracuse, and Virginia). The ACC actually has more bad basketball teams than the Big Ten - which is reflected in the B1G/ACC Challenge.

Along with the Big XII, I think the Big Ten and the ACC are the undisputed cream of college basketball.

RE: CBB - 2021-22
It may not seem like it but I'm on the ACC board a lot because I do like the ACC, especially in men's basketball, especially North Carolina and Duke and to a lesser degree Syracuse who isn't too far from Wilkes Barre. Florida State also had a player from Wilkes Barre who I went to grade school (not high school) with. If I can't see Illinois or Big Ten teams in the Final Four, I'm glad to see Duke and North Carolina in the Final Four (well more North Carolina, I don't really like Duke but admire the Coach K story this year). I'm not as big on Virginia Tech because they haven't been in the ACC as long and they aren't an established ACC basketball power. If I really didn't like the ACC, I wouldn't waste my time on ACCBBS. Look at the SEC and Pac 12 boards.

I appreciate your kind words about the Big Ten. They haven't been good in the last two years in the NCAAT but they have made many Final Fours and even championship games. Since Michigan State won the last national championship as a Big 10 member (Maryland was in the ACC when they won), Indiana (2002), Illinois (2005), Ohio State (2007), Michigan State (2009), Michigan (2013 and 2018), and Wisconsin (2015) have all made the championship game only to lose, with Indiana, Illinois, Michigan State, and Wisconsin all losing to ACC teams. The difference between the Big Ten and other conferences is we don't have a Duke/North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, or Villanova. The closest we have is Michigan State who has made six Final Fours (2001, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2015, 2019) since they won it all.

RE: CBB - 2021-22
Schmolik, I just like calling you out for fun, I don't think of it as personal. You take your jabs at the western BIG schools so I give it back to you.

Mark, I enjoy your posts, as I enjoy Schmoliks too. I don't get too wrapped up in the conference talk, I just don't. I like the BIG, but it's not a victory for Ohio State if Michigan State were to win a NC in basketball, is it? I guess I never understood that way of thinking?

Like Schmolik pointed out, that is a lot of National Runner-up teams since 2000. If anyone thinks it makes an entire conference weak because they didn't win it all, they are crazy! That is a large amount of different teams from one conference to make it that far. Yes, I get there are years when too many BIG schools make the tournament, not this leagues problem, at all! So Quo and his 1,000,000 posts a day can start threads or continuously degrade schools all she wants on the main board, she sounds like a damn fool. It's the whole southern hate that you see a lot of over there towards the north.
