BU
NU, in need of a win, hosts arch-rival BU at Matthews Arena today. It will be NU's first game back at the barn since March 2020.
BU comes into this game 1-1, losing at URI and beating some team named Gordon College.
I don't know the statuses of Pridgen and TSG, but we got to find a way to win this one. Prior to tipoff, Coen will be honored for becoming the winningest coach in program history.

RE: BU
Tyreek Scott-Grayson has a separated shoulder and is out until mid December. And that’s not a definite either.
TSG and Pridgen likely means a middle of the pack finish IMO.
I will not be surprised at all if we lose to BU tonight.

They are not going to send the tape of that first half to Springfield. Ugly but we need this W so hope we can get it done in the 2nd half

Or the second half.......but winning the NU/BU game is a big hope for me every year. On to Duquesne! It still doesn't show on the schedule but I thought I read that ESPN was streaming all the games from this tourney.

Are the rims in Matthews regulation?
Obviously take the win. I wasn't able to watch but yeah, I guess a win is a win, especially against BU

RE: BU
That was a rough game to watch as both teams were brutally bad in this one.
NU shot just 38% and 11% from the 3-point line (2-18), and BU shot 40% and 5% from 3 (1-18).
Chris Doherty had a game and career-high 16 points with 1o rebounds and was NU's only double-digit scorer. I know Telfort was dinged up but he MUST be more of an offensive threat and show some balls. He's the only one with the ability to consistently create his own shot and shoot the 3.
Djogo is an other one who can create and shoot. But Telfort can be an alpha dog if he wants to.

RE: BU
NU begins the season in the annual opening match up vs. BU at Case Gym.
The game will be on ESPN+ at 7pm.
I think Coen has to push the pace with the young pups on the floor, like NU did during in the Canada trip. I think we’ll be just fine on the boards but we also have to hit some 3’s, which could be our Achilles heel.
Looking forward to getting this season started!

RE: BU
I watched last year's NU/BU game yesterday and I was struck how the game set the tone for the rest of the season. We gave up a comfortable lead to give them a chance at the end. Our starting point guard had no assists or points. Walters and Telfort had a combined eleven turnovers. Six guys played a ton of minutes and the rest of the bench got us two points. We didn't shoot well from three....two for eighteen. It was a reoccuring nightmare of a season. I'm really looking forward to putting last year in the rear view mirror.

RE: BU
NU lost the season opener at BU 72-63.
Jahmyl Telfort scored a team-high 26 points and freshman Masai Troutman had 13. G Joe Pridgen injured his foot early in this one and didn’t play the rest of the game.
NU visits Providence Saturday night at 8pm. The game is on FS2.
Highlights… mostly from BU.

If somebody told me before the game that McClintock would get thirty-three minutes I would hang laughed.

Same here. Coach loved him some #2 last night. Anyway, overall some bright spots and things to look forward to but far too many familiar themes.
I can't take another season with these turnovers and having the opposition shoot 13 more times than us but will be patient as we navigate a tough non-conference stretch with a bunch of newbies.

I totally agree!
I’ve heard from a source that leading up to the game the staff wasn’t thrilled with Chase’s defensive efforts. I think he made a few mistakes on that end yesterday.
But at the end of the day, he’s got to be on the floor. Chase not playing was not the reason why we lost, but McClintock can’t play that many minutes.
I’m actually more concerned with Pridgen’s injury. All he did was make move toward the end line with the ball and pulled up lame. He didn’t play the rest of the game. He and Chase never got into any offensive flow.

RE: BU
I liked Metcalf's enthusiasm. In the second half every time a husky made a nice play he, align with most of the team, clapped or jumped up but the player sitting next to Metcalf never unfolded his arms.

Just had a chance to replay the game and honestly I didn't see a problem with Cormier's defence. He guarded Tate the whole time he was in there and Tate didn't score and I didn't see him pass up chances to help. After he threw a long risky pass that resulted in a turnover Coen took him out immediately. It didn't seem like a coincidence to me.
