Both very funny and very true post!

What happened to WMU? They are almost playing sub-MAC level basketball. I am not going to complain.

RE: MBB: Michigan State
Now that the family all went home, I can share my comments on the game…

1) This game result was neutral in my book. If EMU kept it close or close for longer, I would have been impressed with the “moral victory”. EMU failed to do this and about mid-way through the first half the game began to slip away. But it was by no means an outright dominance by MSU either- especially as EMU started to make a little run mid way through the second that never fully materialized. Truthfully, I am more disappointed with the Northern Kentucky loss, then the way this transpired.

2) Golson had a great game early, but cooled off as the game proceeded. But still finished an impressive 5-9 (5-8 on twos as Miggy likes to reference. I feel like Coach Heath is still trying to figure out flow to play this front court players/situation. Hope that includes more minutes for Ballard, and hope Ikongo learns to shoot more.

3) Non of the guards played well today. Lots of TOs from both Farrakhan and Monty, who seemed to struggle shooting as well- perhaps they were outmatched by MSU. Glad to see Luka get minutes, especially his 3 ball shooting. But drives were not all there.

But I still think EMU’s season is young and promising. Overall, I am more disappointed with the Northern Kentucky loss than this one.

Final comment on the MSU game. I don’t think MSU is an elite team, and believe EMU defeated itself by not pressuring and disrupting MSU’s offense, by both Monty and Noah penetrating too deeply that resulted in excessive turnovers, EMU playing a low-post offense, and the refs being extremely biased as MSU scored 14 more points from the foul-line than EMU did.

I love the home town reporters who celebrate a component of their team's performance at home over a MAC team that is severely over-matched. EMU has a weak frontcourt, that cannot be denied, after all we start three guards. In Ann Arbor reporters were gushing about Blue's football offense after scoring 47 vs WMU and 63 against NIU. Of course in the next seven games that POWERFUL offense averaged less than 30 points per game!

MSU has experienced bigs, we do not, thus the matchup was less than desirable. I'm no basketball savant, but I eminently prefer a 83-59 score with a new coach roster than a 101-48 score from a coach's team in his ninth year.

And they did without Joey. Neither of the B10 teams we played are ranked in the top 25 although Indiana has more votes than MSU in the honorable mention category. Ohio U is the only MAC team with one vote. Woodson doesn't impress me. I'm not sure MSU is an "elite" team at this stage of the game but maybe by the end of the season.
