Monday Musings
Tuesday I felt like Charlie Brown or (the lions kicker Santoso) kicking the field goal. Lucy pulled the ball back as the EMU cagers had a good comeback but came up short in Bloomington and the football team laid a large egg on national tv against 2-7 Ohio. Usually its Michigan laying an egg vs ohio on national tv on washtenaw ave. To complete the trifecta of emu sports misery the womens team lost Tuesday as well.
Friday the basketball team had a great 2nd half to get a win over the red birds of Illinois.
Tuesday the Broncos charge down 94 for another week of MACtion in factory. Rynearson is often the coldest place on earth in November and I will be watching from the comforts of my house.Bowl game implications are huge here while many fans and the admins want the quick lane bowl to the players want the Bahamas?
The Basketball team heads south to play the norse who are an upper echelon Horizon league team. Should be a good one down in Kentucky. Until next time

RE: Monday Musings
Northern Kentucky Norse reminds me that the Horizon League is one of the best conferences in D1 when it comes to nicknames.
Detroit Titans
Green Bay Phoenix
Youngstown State Penguins
IPFW Mastodons
UIC Flames
Beats the hell out of the generics, like Wildcats and (sadly) Eagles.

If kickers like Santoso can get an NFL gig then I'm convinced that Ryland will at least get a shot.

RE: Monday Musings
Would there be a way to 'weather proof' at least a few hundred or thousand Rynearson seats?
Some type of glass enclosure for say 15 rows in the center section below the press box.
Sounds crazy, but sitting in Rynearson at 10:30 p.m. on a mid-November night doesn't sound too comfy.

The weather proofing is better known as a flask and a $2 Natty.

Thank you.
Maybe EMU should have more plastic chair back seats at least in the center section.
If it's colder than the U.P., then let everyone sit in the center section in more comfortable, warm to the butt seats.
And make them green.

Good point Nickle. Actually the Lions have usually had very good kickers like Murray, Hanson and Prater.
Ryland missed some real crucial kicks early in his career, but he has been money the past two seasons. I suppose aging improves performance. Who can remember how bad Julien was his first year with the rugby style kicking? I was pining for Austin Barnes to stay. Then he comes out the next season punting in regular fashion and has been fabulous since, long high punts that never over-extend the coverage. We have some good kickers.

Care to briefly summarize what’s completely behind a paywall? There isn’t even a headline.

'Michigan will receive what one expert called a "once in a lifetime" boost of at least $10 billion for its highways, bridges and more.'
This is over a 5-year period.
Don't want to get into politics and public policy, but I'd like to see a 5-year extension come up in say 2024 to extend another 1T (or at least say 500B) for an additional 5 years.
Roads, bridges, tunnels have very long lead times, long times to build, cost overruns, etc.
Like to see a Phase II (every good Phase I deserves a Phase II ).

RE: Monday Musings
Dear Friends,
It's nice to see that kind of money coming, but it's over five years. Evenly divided, that's 2 billion a year.
Several months ago, there was an article about Oakland County's roads. If, every road, bridge, and residential street were to be repaired, the cost would be 2 billion dollars. Just to give another perspective of how bad our infrastructure needs have become.

Is it April 1?
Good one Nickle!
NCAA sports just cannot seem to get enough of awards but this nomination seems to be cheapen the award or at the very least the nomination process. Assistant coaches probably receive too much credit and blame for their unit's performance as the head coach is the ultimate decision maker, but while Neathery's defense was solid his first few years, today it most certainly is not.
