The students didn’t shoot down FBS funding. They didn’t even know at the time FBS was happening. I bet if they voted again it would pass.
Did you vote on it? It asked for a $3.75 credit hour increase in athletic funding to “further SHSU’s athletic standing post-COVID beyond the FCS level”. The myth that the drum up around it was poorly done is incorrect, we’d known for a week or so that it was going to be on the homecoming ballot. The students shot down FBS funding, just because an official announcement wasn’t made doesn’t mean anything.

Yeah I’m not buying it. Sure maybe SHSU had their eyes on FBS but I don’t think there was a clear path to that when the vote happened. Everything happened so fast but the AAC 6 happened on Oct 19 and I think yalls vote happened on Oct 23rd. There is no way between that tile SHSU knew they would get accepted.
You don't have to buy anything, I'm telling you factually what happened. The vote happened Oct 21st-Oct 23rd leading up to CUSA's visit for the JSU game and it's stated intentions were to cover losses due to COVID so SHSU could put a full athletic budget into an FBS move. The students overwhelming voted no and the reaction to the FBS move was negative.

Just because there wasn't a concrete, official invite from an FBS conference on the table doesn't mean the athletic department didn't already have their own intentions of FBS, sooner or later.

I don’t and won’t. And I don’t think your students and alum are as against it as you say. Maybe 50/50 but it’s not like a majority or anything. You know FBS as a NC too. When/if the 12 CFP happens it’s very likely the G5 will get one autobid. So if SHSU is as good as some posters talk about it on KatFans then it’s yours.

We won't be very good at all, we don't stack up in the FBS facilities arms race and it will take a decade to catch up. Especially in Texas. Our niche is selling FBS transfers and what would be borderline FBS starters on the idea of immediate playing time and without that we'll be in trouble. Our coach is probably gone soon too, whether it be back to Delaware or into retirement. I think Sagarin has us at three out of CUSA 4.0 teams right now but that will soon plummet in conjunction with the move.

As for the majority thing, like I said not sure with alums as all I have seen is online polls and chatter. Hope they are on board. But I don't know how you could look at the student referendum that I think something like 73% voted against and say "yeah, they're pretty split". I know this is probably incredibly difficult for a Liberty fan to understand, but not every fanbase at every school across the country wants to see their football team go FBS.

Strange way to spell “smartest and most respectable poster on the CUSAbbs forum”… well at least the realignment forum for now. I’m banned on the main one for no reason. Can you believe that? Me? Banned from a bbs? Must’ve been a mistake.

Ummm sure smartest and most respectable poster……that attended SHSU. You are so awesome in order for the rest of the board to function you had to be sandboxed to a specific section of the board!

I bet that Sam Houston would be the second best or best team in C-USA right now. what team in CUSA that is staying can beat Sam Houston besides Liberty? SammyH

If SHSU played a entire FBS schedule at the beginning of the season but with the team they have now they would get grinded down. A one and done a couple times a season is one thing but doing it every game is another.

I think they will lose their P5 games but teams like FIU, WKU, MTSU are not that far away from an average FCS team. UPTEP and Liberty are the only teams they have to worry about. JSU is not good. unless C-USA brings more top FCS teams from the southeast such as Kennesaw State, Missouri State, UCA etc which Sam Houston could beat them too as well

Sagarin has SHSU at 90 in all of D1 football right now. The only two CUSA 4.0 teams above them right now are Liberty (49th, we’d lose by 20+ they’re good this year) and WKU (71st, lot of former HBU guys there, we’d have a chance).

Beyond that, I’d imagine we’d be competitive and likely favored over everyone else. The next closest Sagarin rated team to SHSU at 90 is MTSU 18 spots down. Some givens though. LaTech looked meh in the 10 mins of LT/SM I forced myself to watch. We already blew out JSU, they suck. We’d dominate NMSU and FIU. Sam would kill those teams. So we’d be at least in the hunt to make the title game with our current team. Disagree that a full slate of FBS ball would wear there guys down. They’ve played 22 games this calendar year. And most of these schools are FCS caliber.

That won’t be sustainable sadly. We’re going to suck in CUSA.

LT almost lost to Southeastern Louisiana. They're 3-8. Sam would beat them by 2 scores!

I guess we all better watch out for SHSU to show us how the game is played.

No, by the time we're full CUSA members we'll be no good. I've said that a few times now, I get you went to GCU East but come on. Read. We will regress and bottom out into one of the worst FBS programs in the nation. Our facilities stink and the attraction of SHSU to recruits and transfers will be gone.

My hope is that once this happens and our crowds dwindle to less than 5k, the athletic dept. realizes we're better off in the FCS.
