RE: ODU game
Was talking with an athletics member yesterday at the end of the game. Without me bringing it up he said they were going to have the sound company come back and recalibrate everything with the sound system. They definitely are aware of it.

Glad to see this. Sounds like a Charlie Brown television show during any announcements. Thanks for the updates.

RE: ODU game
was at the football game so watched on replay yesterday.

* intensity
* multiple guys not afraid to take "the shot" (swagger factor?)
* found a way to win with bad shooting night
* too many turnovers (could be credit to ODU)
* Strickland with a great job of getting to rim.
* Edwards has great court vision and "surprised" 2 teammates with feeds underneath that should have been points at the start. Both guys weren't ready for the feed and ended up turnovers. Hopefully next game they are ready (i still really like Edwards all-around game--despite his poor 3 point shot!)
* can you change Vado at this point? Lewis was able to so we will see

going to be a fun year and curious to see how all these pieces come together after a month or so in to the season.

Yeah we were all looking at each other the entire game saying we could not understand what the announcer was saying. I assumed it was the acoustics and echo. Hopefully it will be able to be fixed.

First time down to see the AUBC. It was awesome. In person I could see the student section was tight to the baselines. It could be very loud at times. Great seats. The Club was awesome. Could leave during breaks to grab a beer and be back b4 play resumed. Food was solid in the club. Gold Urinals = check. I love the new pep band with two featured guitars. Seemed to feel more electric like the old days. The non guitar band did not seem as loud as I thought it would based on the size.

As far as the team - loved the defense. Lot of solid players on JMU. No stars. This team has a shot to finish top 100 if they continue to improve. Have a shot at an NIT bid, but probably a long shot at this point.

There you go Dukester. thats the Dukester we want to see. sorry i didnt bump into you.

as for the audio, I agree, couldnt hear any of it. I wonder if the design that makes the crowd so loud, also makes it PA so poor. you would thin they can fix it.

RE: ODU game
Audio adjustments are to be expected in a new arena. The techs will fix it (at their expense) as is common with new construction. Still, that was the only thing to complain about. The arena is a stunning success. I didn’t read complaints about the sound system last year, but then again, the arena wasn’t really occupied. JMU will not rest until this problem is resolved.

Also surprised the crowd size wasn’t bigger facing the #4 team. Was it the Sunday afternoon start time? Was it because it was Maryland or it being early in the season? Perhaps the students didn’t show as this week is a common exam week prior to the Thanksgiving break. Whatever the reason I would have thought attendance would have come close to the UVA game.

This is the ODU thread, but perhaps the lack of attendance yesterday versus UMD was due to the NFL?

Yeah I thought it was strange as well that the attendance for Women's game was so low.

I went to the arena last year and as you said there wasn't a big crowd but the PA system seemed fine and I don't remember any issues.

ODU playing Manhattan tonight. They are up comfortably. Manhattan has a win over Fordham and a lower division Manhattanville

Good points. I agree that there is definitely a swagger with this team that is legit. Also I have confidence in this team to make good shots and they seem to do that more often than not. A few times (Hodge perhaps?) took a shot a bit early, but it wasn't an awful shot.
The ODU game was also this team's first Div I game, so I do expect mistakes to be made. The thing I've been pleasantly surprised to see is the defense. There have been so many times in the past where we've seen players lunging towards a guy taking a wide open 3. That happened a few times, but nowhere near as much in the past. A lot of contested shots was nice to see.
We are definitely headed in the right direction, that's for sure.

That confidence also showed through in the last 2 minutes. That was what I was most impressed with, it was clear Coach B and crew stayed calm and confident despite playing pretty poorly on offense for the first 18 minutes of the 2nd half on offense. They found a way to win, it's the sign of a confident team.

RE: ODU game
Interesting tidbits from our only other game this year, ODU, in their game vs Manhattan,

We forced 21 turnovers against ODU - and they only had 6 against manhattan. They also only shot 10 3's but hit 50% of them against Manhattan. They went 1-15 against us.

Our defense is going to carry us this season. This is a very welcome change!

With what I have seen, though, I think the incoming transfers and the new freshmen are higher level players than the returning players. In a very small sample size, I don't see how you keep those freshmen, especially Stinson and McConnell, on the bench in favor of Morse and Strickland, for example. If someone is going to transfer out following the season, I prefer that it be those older guys, given how talented I think this freshman class is (and hopefully they'll get a chance to show that).

Strickland? You’ve got to be kidding. 1) Strickland is still a Freshman (if the Covid year doesn’t count), so he’s not one of those “older guys”, and 2) Strickland is one of the quickest, on ball defenders on the team. 3) Strickland’s all-pro, NBA father’s DNA is in the young man, and he’s a great team-first player. In essence, Strickland is exactly the type of “glue guy” the program needs.

Could not agree more. Love this kid's game. Great defender, drives the lane and either dishes to Amadi, or get's to the rim and finishes on Offense. Still very young and prone to trying to do too much, but he's got supreme confidence, and his enthusiasm is infectious.
