Has STF hit the Jackpot twice??? First Hammock, now Burno??? I’ve been watching crappy NIU basketball teams most of my Huskie life. Go Huskies!!!
Many here are too hard on Frazier. I was happy when he got here, seemed like a go-getter, talked big, said the right things, unfortunately, he hasn’t delivered on much of his big talk and there are definitely glaring deficiencies in his administration but hiring is not one of them.
Not all hires will be homeruns but he’s done better than not in terms of hiring. The aforementioned Hammock and Burno hires appear, early on, to be very good if not great. I was a big fan of the Swan hire for Men’s soccer and the Carlsen hire for Women’s basketball at the time of the hires. Swan immediately showed signs of improving the program and has delivered a MAC regular season Championship and seems to be further growing forward. Carlsen delivered excitement with her style of basketball and while the results haven’t quite been where you would like them to be, she has improved the program is is still moving forward in that trajectory. Not everything can be overnight, I’m still happy with the hire.
While he didn’t hire Teaberry he’s kept her on and she’s been great for T&F. He did, however, hire Adrian Meyers who was great before he moved on to a promotion elsewhere.
In my opinion, Frazier does seem to wait to long to pull the trigger, though. I was clamoring for Monty and the old Men’s soccer coach to go long before they were actually let go. And Carey wasn’t replaced until he voluntarily left. I didn’t follow women’s basketball too closely before but I imagine if I had that I would have pulled the trigger on that replacement earlier too. This could be said of other sports.
Although, even this isn’t always the case. He made a bad hire with the Women’s tennis coach upon arriving but corrected that by letting her go and the new coach seems to be doing a good job.
Not to bag on other hires who are still here, but there may be a lemon or two in the bunch. I’ll leave it at that.
Overall, Frazier has a good to very good track record of coaching hires.
Frazier (and his golf cart) get too much grief around here.
Enjoy the current fruits of Huskie Sports.
