Really Burno??!!???
Ok. Still processing what our Huskies did to the Huskies last night. I’m going to temper my expectations , but nobody saw this coming. Has STF hit the Jackpot twice??? First Hammock, now Burno??? I’ve been watching crappy NIU basketball teams most of my Huskie life. Go Huskies!!!

Yeah. I can say that my expectations were about as low as can go.

The team was organized, showed some talent and Hankerson looked the part of a leader and scorer.

Sean T. Frazier gets zero credit for the Hammock hire. Hammock was an alumni and former NIU player and wanted the position, all STF had to do was not get out of his golf cart long enough to screw it up.

I didn't watch the game and just making observations from the box score, but it seemed like the transfers from Monty's last year improved. It even looked like Crump had a solid game.

Maybe they needed teachers as well as coaches.

Many here are too hard on Frazier. I was happy when he got here, seemed like a go-getter, talked big, said the right things, unfortunately, he hasn’t delivered on much of his big talk and there are definitely glaring deficiencies in his administration but hiring is not one of them.

Not all hires will be homeruns but he’s done better than not in terms of hiring. The aforementioned Hammock and Burno hires appear, early on, to be very good if not great. I was a big fan of the Swan hire for Men’s soccer and the Carlsen hire for Women’s basketball at the time of the hires. Swan immediately showed signs of improving the program and has delivered a MAC regular season Championship and seems to be further growing forward. Carlsen delivered excitement with her style of basketball and while the results haven’t quite been where you would like them to be, she has improved the program is is still moving forward in that trajectory. Not everything can be overnight, I’m still happy with the hire.

While he didn’t hire Teaberry he’s kept her on and she’s been great for T&F. He did, however, hire Adrian Meyers who was great before he moved on to a promotion elsewhere.

In my opinion, Frazier does seem to wait to long to pull the trigger, though. I was clamoring for Monty and the old Men’s soccer coach to go long before they were actually let go. And Carey wasn’t replaced until he voluntarily left. I didn’t follow women’s basketball too closely before but I imagine if I had that I would have pulled the trigger on that replacement earlier too. This could be said of other sports.

Although, even this isn’t always the case. He made a bad hire with the Women’s tennis coach upon arriving but corrected that by letting her go and the new coach seems to be doing a good job.

Not to bag on other hires who are still here, but there may be a lemon or two in the bunch. I’ll leave it at that.

Overall, Frazier has a good to very good track record of coaching hires.

Frazier (and his golf cart) get too much grief around here.

Enjoy the current fruits of Huskie Sports.

Nice win. Didn't see the game, but I think I'll hold off on any conclusions after one game. NIU did beat a good Buffalo team when Monty was here (though nobody else of note that I can think of). Hopefully the success will continue.

RE: Really Burno??!!???
I don't watch much basketball, but a few things I noticed that seem "bad."

1. Fouls, oh my god the fouls. Luckily the WasHuskies were broke from the line.
2. Shot selection. We went on a few runs without points because of poor shots.
3. Rebounding. A lot of us watching on Twitter and the announcers noted that we had never seen that many offensive rebounds before. We need to come down with those.

It almost seemed like we could have ran away with that game had we done some fundamentals better. If UW didn't have so many second chances on offense and a few more of our shots fall...

Overall it was really exciting to watch and I really hope this gets me back to caring about basketball.

When was NIU Basketball's last Power Five Win? What was Monty's signature victory in his tenure?

Our last P5 win was in 2006. I believe it was a win over Kansas State.

I’d say beating #14 Buffalo in the 18-19 season was Montys big win.

To the best of my Goolge-ing...

Monty signature win: vs #14 Buffalo 2018-19

Last Boneyard victory: vs Kansas State 2005-06. NIU won the game (in the Convo) 75-70 in OT. K-State was coached by Jim Woolridge and went 15-13 that season (6-10 in the Big 12). K-State's best players were Cartier Martin, David Hoskins and Lance Harris.

NIU was coached by Rob Judson. They went 17-11 that season (12-6 in the MAC - 1st place) and were led by Todd Peterson, James Hughes, Cory Sims and Mike McKinney.

No matter how anyone spins it. If NIU would have lost by 30 we would have taken the loss as growing pains of a young team. This was far from expected against a PAC-12 team.

I don't know much about Washington but I was doubtful we'd cover the spread even.

Washington could be the worst team in the Pac-12 and I would have still expected us to lose by double digits lol

Washington was pretty terrible the last few years. Still though...we won 3 games last year and a bad team in the Pac-12 should curb stomp a bad team from the MAC.

I think all this game really did was confirm Washington is 100% terrible. NIU might be okay and they might not be, but Washington is terrible.
