That’s what I’m thinking. What’s wrong with CBS getting the #1 selection each week for the 2:30 afternoon slot on CBS—-and ESPN gets everything else including the CCG. The fact is, ESPN will already have all the SEC (now at 16 teams), all the ACC, half the B10, half the Pac12, and all the AAC/Sunbelt/MAC. I don’t think that one Big12 game a week will cause any real problems with ESPN programming.

I wouldn't mind if the B12 was the only national game with ESPN on a Wed. and/or Thursday night game.

The ESPN+ broadcast I saw this year was absolutely horrible streaming quality and horrible announcers. Not looking forward to that.

ESPN needs to make some huge upgrades in the quality of their broadcast clarity, it is absolute junk a lot of times compared to FOX. They have the equipment to do a good quality broadcast of MNF games.

I have no problem with CBS for a single game of the week. Nothing more. They do not have enough of a platform to host more than that. I would like a combination of CBS and ESPN or stick with our current partner setup.

.

Seriously?

Thursday Night games are suicide going up against the NFL Game.

Also, any thought if a Wed Night game, that means each team has to be on a bye week prior to that game. (Let alone ESPN already has contracts.for.MLB games on Weds.

Plus, ESPN now has a 7 yr contract for NHL wed night games.

If CBS gets a slice, how many games will go to Paramount Plus?

All these major networks are prioritizing inventory for their streaming options in this round.

Sure the Game of the Week sounds great but how many games get stuck in Plus Purgatory, never to be seen by recruits.

Paramount Plus lists SEC as part of their Live Sports coverage.

That thought process killed the MAC.

I wouldnt want CBS for more than one game a week in the CBS-OTA 2:30 Sat afternoon slot. CBS gets the number on pick for each week to air in that slot---everything else goes to the Mouse.

RE: Could the Big12 be the Economical "Big Name" Content CBS Needs at 3:30 Saturday
Hopefully we can get our overall TV rights at $250 million per year or more. A 3-network split could definitely work. Something like:

Conference Championship Game: ABC/ESPN
1st pick: CBS (Saturday at 3:30pm)
2nd pick: ESPN/Fox rotating (ABC, ESPN, Fox, or FS1)
3rd pick: ESPN/Fox rotating (ABC, ESPN, Fox, or FS1)
4th pick: ESPN/Fox rotating (ESPN2, ESPNU, FS1, or FS2)
5th pick: ESPN/Fox rotating (ESPN2, ESPNU, FS1, or FS2)
6th pick and beyond: ESPNU and ESPN+

Have ESPN and Fox agree to a minimum number of games per year on ABC and Fox, whatever that number may be.

Right now, ESPN pays for the conference championship game and some ESPN+ content together. So perhaps the contract could be split in 4 something like this:

CBS: $80 million for the game of the week, which can also include basketball (they pay $55 million for SEC, but that has been speculated to actually be worth $250 million or more)
ESPN/Fox: $60 million for 2 football games each plus basketball games
ESPN: $50 million for conference championship game and ESPN+ Tier 3 (they currently pay $40 million)

That adds up to $250 million annually, which averages out to just under $21 million per school. With bowl payouts, tournament credits, CFP money, etc. that should keep the conference payout per school comparable with what it is today, which I believe is a little under $40 million. I have no idea if these numbers are realistic, but it does seem like we would maximize revenue by splitting the rights up a bit. It also may be appealing to the networks, as it is less risky considering they may have doubts about how TV ratings will be long term after Oklahoma and Texas leave.

Using the 2023 schedule as an example, here's what it could look like in terms of matchups and networks in the non-conference:

9/2/2023: BYU vs. Tennessee (CBS), TCU vs. Colorado (Fox), Houston vs. UTSA (ESPN), Iowa vs. Northern Iowa (FS1), Oklahoma State vs. Central Arkansas (ESPNU), Baylor vs. Texas State (ESPN+), Cincinnati vs. EKU (ESPN+), Kansas State vs. SEMO (ESPN+)

9/9/2023: Iowa State vs. Iowa (CBS), Texas Tech vs. Oregon (ABC), Baylor vs. Utah (FS1), Kansas vs. Illinois (ESPN2), West Virginia vs. Duquesne (FS2), Kansas State vs. Troy (ESPN+), TCU vs. Nicholls (ESPN+)

9/16/2023: West Virginia vs. Pitt (CBS), Cincinnati vs. Miami (FS1), Oklahoma State vs. South Alabama (ESPN2) ----- This week is kind of wonky because Kansas and Houston are scheduled to play non-conference, which will obviously be changed. Also, UCF has an open date.

9/23/2023: TCU vs. SMU (CBS) ----- Most of the rest of the games will likely be in conference. The 2nd and 3rd games could be something like Oklahoma State vs. Baylor and BYU vs. UCF just to throw a few out there.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure FOX will be a big player with the B12 going forward, I'm afraid they might go all in with the B1G & PAC. The B1G has killed it ratings wise this year.

CBS could replace FOX and do a tier 2 rotation game in the 11 a.m. spot also, or maybe a CBS Sports network game late as one of the last choices.
