For a Group of 5 school to be in, that will be huge. It is a shame College Athletic is all about $$. This IS a darn good conference. And we have a bright future ahead of us.

But good luck, American! Will always root for you, always!

A fan from UCF

The American should have signed GOR from the get go, Guarantee that financially we would have been in a position to Raid/Merge with BIG XII or take any MW members Aresco wanted.

It's never a good idea to be the smallest conference. Ask the Big East and Big 12.

RE: If the Big East didn't die
Big East is the Great What If ? for ECU. It was kind of the best of times worst of times when the Big East made their final selections for all sports Conference in 1990. ECU got beat out by VT and Temple for the final spots but it was closer than most people know. I remember beating VT in our final game of the season and being invited to the Peach Bowl on VT's field. We were on the way to the Peach Bowl and a #9 finish but VT was on the way to the Big East so despite losing to us and having a horrible start under Frank Beamer their fans had something to be excited about.

I loved watching the original version of the Big East despite ECU not making it. As an ECU fan you could not help but watch it because we had history with VT, Miami, WVU, Pitt, Syracuse etc.. I think Miami, WVU and VT all peaked under the Big East and it was the perfect home for them. WVU has never been the same since they joined the Big12 and VT is now floundering in the ACC and the once great Miami might have found the Academic home their President wanted in the ACC but their sports programs have gone down the crapper since joining the ACC.

I had several opportunities to watch the Big East Tournament in Madison Square Garden and as a kid that grew up on Tobacco Road with ACC Basketball there was and still is nothing that compares to the old Big East Tournament in Madison Square Garden. It was the best Basketball Conference in the country and it is a damn shame the ACC got so jealous that they decided to destroy the Big East with the help of ESPN. I am glad I grew up with the old Big East Football and Basketball. It was a great thing to experience. It is also bitter sweet because I think ECU would have had a totally different trajectory as an Athletic Program if we had made the final cut for the Big East all sports conference in 1990. As it is we had a pretty good 90's with a Top 10 top 25 finish. Bowl game wins over NCST, Stanford, Texas Tech, big regular season wins over Miami twice once in the Orange Bowl and once in Raleigh for Hurricane FLoyd. As good as the 90s were for ECU it would have been a lot better if we had been a member of the Big East.

This BCS, P5/G5, autonomous crap really did damage to once strong football programs (ECU, USM, Tulsa, UAB) and elevated doormats (VT, South Carolina, Baylor)
