The following message sent to the editor of the Birmingham News
I have been a subscriber to the Birmingham News for more than 30 years and I have a problem with the Birmingham News. When I click the sports link on the email your organization sent to me this morning entitled, “The Birmingham News is ready to read”, I see absolutely no coverage of UAB sports. This is not an unusual situation; it happens all of the time.

Here is that link: https://www.al.com/sports/?e=cfca0d3c9ce...d21866eb8c

On the same feed I see multiple articles about Alabama and Auburn football and there’s even an article covering South Alabama football, but again not one article on UAB’s sports.

It is disgraceful how poorly your newspaper covers your city’s home town team.

This is not the first time I have complained to you about this situation and I am tired of complaining. NOW I WANT TO KNOW FROM YOU PERSONALLY WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS UNTENABLE SITUATION.

Meanwhile I am going to post the content of this message on every UAB site on social media. If you decide to reply to me via my email address above I will be happy to post your reply on those sites as well.

On the other hand if you ignore this message, 10 days from now I am going to start a campaign to BOYCOTT THE BIRMINGHAM NEWS AND CANCEL SUBSCRIPTIONS. UAB fans have been very dissatisfied with your coverage of UAB Sports for years and I don’t think that you will be happy with the response to a call for a boycott.

On the other hand it will cost you practically nothing to provide more UAB sports articles, at least on line. We are the same people who fought tooth and nail for the return of UAB football. It would be a mistake to underestimate our energy and resolve once we adopt a just cause.

No longer locally owned or operated. They could care less what the locals think or want.

Journalism is dead.

Even worse, "professional journalism" is still alive, barely, but is driven by clicks, which destroys all objectivity and what is left of any kind of journalistic professionalism.

There is an editor of The Birmingham News? You wouldn't know it by the lack of quality and accuracy of what is published.

I beat you to it when they dropped actually being a news paper and got rid of reporters for "content" providers. Heck, when referring to them on social media I type alcom so as to not get their site to pop up. If not for Whitmire and Archibald it is a news source worse than rumor.

When I got an ad to subscribe to the B'ham NEWS, I was told to send my check to Louisville, KY. I had heard that all NEWS editors had been fired when they shut down the local facilities.

I remember when the B-News let a huge amount of their staff go. My company was hired to provide security because the B-News wanted to be prepared for disgruntled employees. It was like a 3-day process and it terrible. Two of my close friends that worked there as reporters lost their jobs. It was surreal to witness it.
