Pretty big game tonight at home. Face a 2-0 NU squad. They lost to Yale, where we won. NU seems to give us some troubles in one of the games. Hope we come out strong and can move to 3-0

Fans at the DAC last night got to see a UFC fight disguised as a women's basketball game. After all of the elbowing, and punching and black eyes, Drexel gets their 15th straight win over Northeastern, 8th straight win overall, and off to their best start in school history at 11-2 (3-0)

My opinion is that Brugler's F! foul call was completely incorrect. She came straight down with the rebound and her elbow caught the NU player under her. No arm swinging or extending. A common basketball move. I guess they allowed her made basket and being fouled because it occurred before they determined the F1 was warranted.
Granted, it was a tough game to officiate but I think they over did it on this one.

yeah that was an awful call. the only way to avoid that was to defy the laws of gravity and levitate in the air while she grabbed the rebound and put it back up. her elbows were in perfect shooting position.
the charge on washington was awful too. were they reviewing whether the ne player was in the restricted area or whether it was a charge? hopefully it's the first one because it's worse if they missed the call on replay too...just like the first one.
despite ne turning it into a ufc match like jb said...we held 5-10 points on them the whole game. nice to see connolly show that much fight.

Totally agree. There was zero intent with the elbow and it was really just a matter of the Northeastern player getting her face in Brugler's way of getting the rebound.

That Marist loss is really unfortunate. At 12-1 with only a Nebraska loss, I think a floating possibility of an at large bid would still be out there.

I think Ari said that they only reviewed the restricted area. Yup, she was outside but was also still move laterally to draw the contact. Looks like a fair number of new officials. I didn't know any of them.

It would be an outside chance because we still lack any good wins(Q1). But again the name of the game is keep winning. Enough wins forces you to be on the radar

Ironically, while watching hoops yesterday, in the Kentucky/Tennessee mens game there was a F1 call that was almost as bad and was 100% a basketball play. Guy went to get position in the low block and he put his arms slightly out but back to seal his position and the guy that was guarding him happened to be really short (compared to him) so his elbow caught his neck on the seal. They gave him a flagrant. He did nothing wrong. These days, they are going to wide with player safety regardless of intent. Any content to the head/neck almost should be expected to come back as a F1. Dont agree with it, but it seems like reality in both the men's and women's game

Dragons win their 9th straight, 72-53 over Hofstra in a game that wasn't nearly that close. The blowout win allowed some bench players to get some minutes today. 13 players got action for Drexel. Washington scored 22 and is now averaging 17.8 ppg. I would have considered her a POY candidate, except that Dickey at UD is averaging 25.2 ppg and is tied for tops in the nation.

Nice to see us blow out a bad team from the opening tip. Everyone held serve today. Only game that was a toss up went to Towson winning at home over JMU. Big week ahead for the ladies.

i'm usually the first person to take a big dump on at large talk. you're totally right though. we still probably would have needed a nearly flawless conference record even if we had beat marist. our non-conference wasn't exactly murderer's row. we're off to the start we would need though.
i heard somewhere that there were covid issues preseason in our programs. you wonder if there was something at play we didn't know about for the marist game because we beat them 9 times out of 10.

RE: Women's Basketball 2022 Thread
If there was ever a time to go out and support our women, this week is it! We face the other 2 undefeated teams this week in Towson and Delaware. Towson just beat JMU and held serve elsewhere, Delaware has edged out @Charleston and the won big over Hofstra and Northeastern. At a minimum we need a split, taking both, starting tonight could really propel this team into the driver's seat. Tonight is a huge one.
NET:
77- Towson
104- Drexel
110- Delaware
RPI:
30- Towson
97- Delaware
128- Drexel

Nice win tonight over Towson in another hard fought game. Was glad the officials missed Brugler dragging her plant foot as she twisted and made the final basket.

RE: Women's Basketball 2022 Thread
i haven't seen any replays so i can't say whether she traveled. big basket for her though. i feel like she's right on the verge of putting it all together. hopefully that play gives her some more confidence moving forward.
i actually didn't think we played that well and still won. washington and leonard both struggled with their shooting. leonard was a monster and kept digging up offensive rebounds. she's taken some big steps forward just in the last few games.
we're using the bench a bit more...but i'd still like us to go a little deeper especially with hyduke and borcky. kate connelly didn't have her best game and i feel like one of those two could have come in. i guess hendrixson got most of those minutes and she had a nice game especially defensively. i'd still like the competition for that wing position to be kept open.

I thought that was an amazing play. Didn't realize that it was travelling.
That was a huge win last night. Drexel kept them at arms length most of the night. I did think that in the final minutes and a small lead, they were relying too much on Washington, and the ball was in her hands way too long, forgetting about the other four on the court. It was after a couple of possessions like that in which Towson tied the game. Glad they were able to pull this one out for their 10th in a row.
Sunday afternoon is the battle of unbeatens, Drexel vs. Delaware at the DAC, and the game will be televised on NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Huge win and even bigger one up next. With Delaware beating JMU last night, its the battle for first and a commanding lead for the top seed. Hopefully we get a decent crowd for it. The women deserve it
