Avg Jan temps in Ohio are mid 30- 20
November's are more 50's- mid 30's at night.

So out of an entire team made up of 85 scholarship players....only 28 kids came from southern locations. And I would almost bet that of those 28, several of them came via the Juco route from schools in Arizona, Mississippi and Texas.

So how do you guys do with recruiting? You could throw a rock from the Marshall campus, and it would land in Ohio. Are you guys a northern state?

We do fine with recruiting because most all the schools we play are primarily in the south. Most recruits want to play in leagues that feature areas around their hometown and state so that family and friends can attend those games. Its why the Sunbelt conference was perfect for us. We have large alumni bases in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia etc....its where we are from an alumni standpoint and it where we play so its where we recruit.

Our alumni are in 1st Kentucky, 2nd Tennessee, 3rd Indiana. Florida, Texas, Ohio, Georgia, Illinois, Virginia, California were the rest of the Top 10 I think. We play a lot of OOC games in the South and could increase that number if we move to the MAC and replace current OOC MAC matchups. I think being on ESPN networks and OOC games will make this change a wash for recruiting for football. I think it will be easier to recruit for hoops.

In basketball the MAC is going to a 20 game conference schedule which leaves 8 for OOC. Western will want 5 of those 8 for home games so that means buying OVC or a-Sun teams for 4 of them and a D-2 for another.

Football you have 4 OOC games and one of those will be a FCS school and a money game. So at best 3 games in the recruiting areas and most likely 2 to 1

If espn helped in recruiting why is it most of the MAC schools are below CUSA and the SBC in recruiting rankings?

You are dreaming and most Western fans are acting like they just lost their girl to someone else. So this time they going to protect that by going out and getting fattest, ugliest girl that will have them.....

instead of realizing they were with the wrong person to began with and better off for it the day they walk out, chasing dollars. Now these same Western fans will be on the MAC boards complaining about their fat, ugly, mate...

cant cook, dont clean, and a awful laid and dreaming about if only...

Translated to...
no fans
north bias
keeping Western from a at large bid

Other words the same bullcrap fans were unhappy with in the SBC and CUSA. As for the alumni most (my guess 90%) only care about being able to sit on their asses and watching a game from home. Not supporting the program with their asses in a seat. Lets break it down to the real reason you, 518 and most Western fans want the MAC....

thats to be able to sit at home and watch games. Thats the #1 concern and the MAC gives those fans that with espn and espn+

Those two staying would be the best news CUSA has had in a while.

No thanks. Too much uncertainty in C-USA. The MAC is stable and full of peers. C-USA is full of teams trying to get out of C-USA and I don't see that changing. Hell, the same Liberty posters that want WKU and MTSU to stay are also the ones saying how they will dominate the league and move up to the AAC in a couple years. Why the hell would I want my program to stick around just to Liberty get to the AAC? WKU is going, going, going, gone!

I personally don't care what you guys do but I will predict that if you make the move, you will regret making that decision. The MAC is a no where, non-forward thinking conference that will always be what it is. I could be wrong but I just don't see your fan base staying on board for long in a league like that.

Point being....you guys are a basketball school and are possibly going to a league that will have less basketball strength than the one you are currently in. Plus you would be turning down millions in exit fee money to enter a league with no upward direction. Makes no sense to me to but maybe WKU is more like MAC type schools then I realized.

If you go back over the NCAA Tournament history, most champions run from the state of North Carolina latitudinally northward. Every Mid-American Conference state has an NBA team for a reason. That cannot be said for any other Gang of 5 Conference. In fact, the MAC Tournament is held at the home of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

CUSA could at least entertain the home of the Dallas Mavericks or San Antonio Spurs or even the home of the Memphis Grizzlies instead of curtained courts at a glorified Rec Center in Frisco.

I’d move the conference tournament to Las Vegas. The Pac-12, MWC, WAC, Big West, WCC and I believe Big Sky have their tournament in Vegas. UTEP and NMSU are a short 1.5 hour flight to Las Vegas. Unlike bowls which give you a 2-4 week notice, you know the dates and location and can make arrangements months in advance.

If not, rotate it to on campus venues but I still think Vegas is better compared to empty NBA arenas and the Cowboys practice facility.

Also heard there was quite a bit of push back from several of the coaches on both sides. Something might still be worked out but at this point I'm guessing it wont. If I'm WKU and MTSU, I would stay in CUSA. The additions CUSA recently made just guarantees that basketball in CUSA would already be better than the MAC on day 1 and football would be on par. To me, its a no-brainer for WKU and MTSU to stay in CUSA now.

I think making a move the MAC would be a huge long-term mistake for sure. That should be the last option. That MAC is not "forward thinking" and never has been. Never will. Plus, who really wants to be playing all their games in November on Tuesday and Wednesday nights? I sure wouldn't. And add to the fact that the majority of alumni and recruiting is done south of WKU and MTSU for these schools....I think it would be wise to stay.

Guessing our football coaches maybe concerned with recruiting. I don’t think WKU has a choice. MTSU May have a shot at American. WKU has no shot of any conferences. Liberty will probably move up and this will start all over again. Will be in a conference with a bunch of FSC start ups, no thanks. Nothing against the schools but Jax st, Sam Houston and New Mexico does nothing for me..

I don’t think WKU has a kid in their 2020 recruiting class from north of Kentucky.

We only had 3 I believe recruits last year. Most are from transfer portal.

The MAC "dislikers" on this thread FAIL to see the problems with the current and "new" C-USA now AND going forward. A lot of posts from Marshal (who has no involvement) and people in new CUSA wanting WKU and MT to stay and "help" strengthen the new league.

As I stated before IF just one or two of the current members had stayed you probably would have seen MT and WKU hang with them. We do not want to hang without them.

Had FIU or La Tech gotten invitations from another league-- do you think THEY would have stayed??

Not like CUSA or the posters here are keeping WKU in the conference. I think staying could be a good thing in the long run but I understand ones need to jump directly into something more stable.

It's just going to hurt you in the long run. CUSA then will invite EKU and Chattanooga or Eastern Tennessee. It won't take them that long to catch up, while you're dying in the MAC. I hope your administration sees the bigger picture and stays in CUSA.

This is freaking awesome. Marshall no better off 3 conferences later than their best stretch in 1997 in the MAC (in which Miami kicked Marshall, Chad Pennington, and Randy Moss's ass and I was happy to be a big part of that on Miami's team). Spinnin' their wheels and always bitchin' but no better off... Lmfao!
.
Marshall is cancer to any conference they belong to. SBC might be sorry theu added this cancer.

It's impressive what Coastal has done though I would be willing they can't maintain it.

But all that said going to the MAC will be a death sentence to our football program. Almost none of our alumni and fans understand what this is going to do to the program. And I'm really bummed that the SBC elected to be petty inviting freaking JMU over bringing us back, because I would love to rekindle rivalries with the Cajuns, Troy, Ga Southern and App St. plus carry on what we've done with Marshall and USM during our C-USA time.

We're about to make the worst possible decision we could make. Instead of collecting millions, we're going to be paying out millions to go to a league we have no business being in. In terms of colossal failures, we're about to make it, and that I'm pretty much in the minority on that view. But as a business decision there is no justification for it.

I totally agree. And I think that once you cross that line and sign that GOR, you guys will forever be stuck in the MAC playing on Tuesday/Wednesday nights in November at Northern States with 15- 20 degree weather. Will be hard for a southern school like MTSU to talk southerners recruits into playing in a Northern Conference like that. You will most certainly have to change your primary recruiting locations to Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio etc. Those kids are used to playing in those conditions so they are more likely to accept playing in those conditions.

Toledo's FB roster includes players from:
15-Fl
3-Va
2-Alabama
2-Ga
2-Tx
1-Ark
1-Miss
1-Arz
1-Okla

Avg Jan temps in Ohio are mid 30- 20
November's are more 50's- mid 30's at night.

Don't forget about those temps in Michigan, Illinois and Buffalo.

And this... this right here. This is the vitriol that we continually received while in the MAC. This elitist attitude and constant hate from the other schools. We came in and kicked their asses and they were pissed that a little hillbilly school in a little hillbilly state could or would even think about doing such a thing to all of their historic and established schools.
