RE: CAA to ban JMU from championship play
The fun response is to scrub the CAA logo off your fields and courts the day after you announce and replace them with SBC logos.

CAA to ban JMU from championship play
Will the CAA be the CUSA of FCS as another poster stated?

I don't know if the JMU response will go any further than words from Alger and Bourne, but I'd love to see that. Would also love to see lots of running up of scores on CAA teams. Hey, we've gotta look good for an at-large bid!

The good news is I don't think its a significant effect for you guys outside of the basketball sports and baseball. Your Mens Soccer team is probably good enough for an At Large, Football certainly is, and Softball probably will be.

Football is still eligible for the conference title. CAAF is a separate league than CAA. Though under same umbrella.

Hope you guys will let all of our non-football in for 2022-23!

Yeap. Not upset over it because it was done in the past and JMU was part of those votes. With that stated it's a dumb rule. JMU is a founding member of the CAA and has done a lot for the league. So definitely petty on their part to not reconsider.

Yeah, this. It's not a surprise in the slightest, it's just that now it's confirmed. Crappy thing to do to the athletes, and was crappy of JMU to be a part of doing the same to others. Like 2004 said though, JMU stuck around when everyone else was jumping ship so would've been nice if they surprised us and waived this dumb bylaw.

Hopefully we're able to get to the Sun Belt for 2022-23 in basketball and other sports. Definitely an interesting thought from T-Dog on trying to use this as one of our transition years then playing Sun Belt football in 2022. I don't think the scholarship requirement would be any issue at all with us having plenty of extras due to covid already. I'll be surprised if the transition does end up being anything out of the ordinary, but with the extra scholarships it seems possible and it'll be interesting to see. Would be even better if we could make that happen after the fact, go play in the playoffs then go "oh and hey, we had like 80 scholarships, transition year one done?" 03-lmfao

I get rules are rules but you all are also going through a pandemic and the FCS level got beaned pretty hard, its too bad they didn't take any of that into consideration seeing your athletes have put up with more bs than an a typical year.

ODU wasn't eligible for the CAA championship even with a 10-1 record.

Sorry, UL and ULM fans...

Doesn’t bother us. LaTech doesn’t play in a real conference anymore and we do.

The team getting most screwed is probably women's volleyball. They are currently 15-5 and tied for first in the CAA. Just this week, the official CAA social media accounts were congratulating our volleyball team on securing a seed for the CAA tournament in 2 weeks. CAA is not typically a 2-bid league so an at-large seems nearly impossible.... With less than 2 weeks remaining in their season.

In response, all Sun Belt teams should drop any money games the CAA has scheduled with the Sun Belt. Give JMU the option to replace those teams next year. All remaining games, replace with Socon teams or Big South teams.

Even if it doesn't help our student-athletes, I'm hoping the last thing JMU accomplishes in the CAA is conjuring up enough outrage on social media to force a vote to get this changed so the student-athletes for schools leaving in the future don't have to go through this. That would be the second best outcome from all of this.

Yea no. Even though they are separate legal entities they are going to follow the same bylaw. Just like they did to us when we went 10-1. We know we won the CAA, we still don't have the trophy.

The student athletes chose the school with long established rules in place. Do you want to teach them to follow the rules they believe in only? The league is a collection of schools who all voted in the rule, even JMU.

That's messed up, and the way I read it, it's not a rule per say, but one they could enforce.. But they are choosing to, so that's a d*ck move.

Best of luck to JMU. May you find success when you arrive in the SBC, but face adversity when you face the Golden Eagles of Southern Mississippi.

Is this new? Or at least since App State and Georgia Southern left the SoCon? I know the SoCon took a nose dive, effectively sealing North Dakota State's dynasty, once App and Georgia Southern left but the CAA was one conference at the time.

As said on Sirius XM this morning, imagine if the Big 12 did this to Oklahoma and Texas...

CAA Football and the CAA have always been distinct legal entities, even though they share branding.

EDIT: To be clear, I think it's a dumb policy that should be ended.

Ya and JMU voted for it in the past and now they are bitching about it when they did the same thing.

They can keep crying for all I care.

Pretty standard stuff I'd think. I'm pretty sure GS was barred from conference championships the last full season in the SoCon.
