McNeese wants to and Sam Houston doesn't. Their own fans are throwing a fit. They seem to have no interest in growing or expanding at all.

If that really does happen we need to start a gofundme for FIU cause that would just a be just an improbably bad series of events for them.

Frankly I honestly could see the appeal of this for both LT and UTEP. Also with McNeese State talking about wanting to move the FBS it gives you a core set of 3 FBS schools and several other teams that want to move up but we'll need a few more years in order to do so. Also when they finally do make the move to FBS they could always invite other top FCS schools to join and do some conference shuffling with those that want to stay. Probably a long shot but I'd love to see this:

WAC NORTH:

Montana, MSU, NDSU, SDSU, UNI, Missouri State

States: (MO, MT, ND, SD, IA)

WAC SOUTH

NMSU, UTEP, LT, Tarleton State, McNeese State, SHSU

States: (NM, TX, LA)

Please, no SFA. If you think Sam's budget & facilities are a stretch for FBS you have no idea how dire it is in Nacogdoches.

FIU will be fine, we got 55k students funding athletics.

Lake Charles American-Press writer throws out that neither Sam Houston or NMSU have received offers at this time and that the WAC may look at starting up talks with UTEP, La Tech.
===
Sources have said Sam Houston and New Mexico State are still members of the WAC and have not received any offers as of now. The league may even look at starting up talks with UTEP and Louisiana Tech, both former members of the WAC a source said.

The WAC restarted football this fall after not offering the sport since 2012, fueled by four former SLC teams that left for the WAC, a charter member of FBS, in June.

The conference appears poised to reactivate and reclassify as an FBS conference in the next few years according to several sources. That would be perfect timing for McNeese, which is still recovering from the devastating storms of 2020.

Lake Charles American-Press

The difference is CUSA is already a FBS Conference and the WAC is not , CUSA wins that one
Man this is really a game of screw your buddy
It’s musical chairs. Just don’t be without a chair when the music stops

Is the endgame here that what is left of CUSA merges with the WAC and the whole conference becomes FBS level?

In this scenario, FIU deletes their football team.

Zero appeal for UTEP. Our AD was the first to publicly say we’re riding with CUSA. Unless CUSA dissolves there is zero chance we go to the WAC.

Yep Zero chance of this happening.

Why would CUSA dissolve and give up 20million/year in CFP revenue sharing? And give up 50 million in exit fees from schools leaving

That 50 million will be a good consolation.
The leaner CUSA is actually looking in good shape. Now bring in travel partners NDSU and SDSU and call it a day.

Can't blame you. I always wondered why UTEP and NMSU are not in the MWC. Why would the MWC not expand to 14 teams and include both universities? You are both in their footprint and would be a great fit.

The last info attributed to the mwc was that their media partners would not give them more money to expand. But you're right that both schools would fit nicely and whichever conference they are in together benefits with close travel partners for olympic sports.

NMSU has a bare bones athletic budget. The MWC would never want them.

TV partners woudn`t pay the money for UTEP or NMSU. I believe it was the same answer for UNT, Rice & UTSA.
