2021-2022 Men’s Basketball
We are getting ever so closer to the start of one of the most hopefully JMU men’s teams in some time. I created a new thread because I couldn’t find one exactly for this season, feel free to delete if it’s a duplicate.

Just 8 Days until the opener! Dukes were picked as the 147th team in the nation by SI this morning and won a majority of quarters against #46 Richmond in scrimmage! Exciting times!

This, indeed, is truly pathetic. The bar needs to be higher. It needs to be raised. Wow... just staring at that number now and its disconcerting.

To be fair, that 147 number just means no one has any clue how good this team will be. We know By will have us playing an exciting brand of basketball. We know we will be deep. We know we will be fast. We don't know how well we will handle other teams' bigs and we don't know if have The Guy to take over a game when nothing else is working.

If the go-to player is on the roster, we could be an absolutely dominant mid-major. If not, our defense and depth should keep us competitive in most games, but probably will be in the mid 100s.

RE: 2021-2022 Men’s Basketball
Well, I think most years the CAA champ is just inside the top 100 rating, but last year it was more like 150. There is no favorite in the CAA, but I think the team that separates itself from the pack will end up in that 150 neighborhood again. The league talent has been depleted again with key transfers out and it is easy to see this is not a vintage CAA. No chance of any at large bids and the tourney champ will be a crappy seed. But at least that team will have a chance to pull the upset in March Madness on a national stage. That is the type of momentum JMU needs to take full advantage of the $100 million new arena. You don’t build something like that to come in 2nd place.

It is amazing to think that even with inflation factored in, JMU spent more on its arena than 2 SEC teams did in recent years. Auburn $86 million and Ol’ Miss $97 million.

Besides the Northeastern guard who transferred out? With the returnees including several super seniors and the incoming transfers for Coc JMU and others I think this years Colonial will be better.

Two years ago, that number would have been 247. One good year does not erase 20+ years of ineptitude. We'll get there. Go Dukes!

Yeah. I'm not surprised. In fact, I thought it might be lower due to losing Lewis. If we were consistently good, that ranking would be much higher.
It doesn't help that the CAA hasn't been good, either.
