RE: Georgia Southern may abandon the option altogether
The issue with the triple option / flex is so few coaches actually know how to run it these days. I love watching it be run. I wish there were more teams who used still used FBs in the I formation.

He's from Gainesville Fl. with deep connections in the region. This along with connections out west may provide a link to some talent willing to make the trip. He's very much respected by his players. Coaching in California vs south Georgia will be vastly different and should play in his favor. His father was an FBS coach and this would likely be his last FBS head coaching gig if he fails. No pressure.

Butch Jones (FIU) Fired
Tommy Tubberville (Cinci) Fired
Dennis Franchione (Texas State) Basically Fired
Larry Coker (UTSA) Fired
Hugh Freeze (Liberty) Doing well, but was fired at Ole Miss for off-field stuff
Lane Kiffin (FAU) Moved on to Ole Miss
Jim McElwain (CMU) 15-13 in 3 seasons at CMU
Gus Malzahn (UCF) Not doing terrible, but certainly not up to par
Terry Bowden (ULM) He's doing okay I guess, but he basically only had 1 good season out of 7 at Akron

I'm fine, ready even to move in a more conventional offense but I don't want Helton. There's nothing more overrated about a coaching resume than whether they worked in "big-time" football. At the G5 it's about taking the leftovers in recruiting that best fit the system. The guys working at the top of the CFB food chain don't know how to do that.

Tubberville is now a Congressman for Alabama in Washington, you probably can mark him off the list

Bring him on. Now go get some offensive game breakers. Most of our fans don t care what offense we run as long as we win

WKU’s main weapon is the OC and QB that came from Houston Baptist.

Georgia Southern may abandon the option altogether
Southern fans won’t give any coach the minimum 5 years it takes to completely change an entrenched offensive scheme. Helton will try to change it, won’t win because he doesn’t have the right athletes, and will be fired in 4 years. Then it’ll get interesting…hire someone else to continue the shift to a modern offense or hire someone to take you back to the TO.

his record at USC is pretty good against stout competitions. hope Southern fans give him a fair chance for a long term build. cant retool the scheme overnight. look at Geoff Collins at Tech after they fired PJ.

Helton is going to hit the transfer portal hard and the OC he's rumored to be bringing is averaging 40.5 PPG right now.

I think most Southern fans are aware that next year will be a struggle regardless.

Our rebuild job won’t be nearly as extensive as it is for Georgia Tech. We haven’t run the triple option since 2013. We have a roster now that is able to transition to RPO or back to the flexbone in a much shorter timeframe. The advent of the transfer portal only makes this easier.

Don’t you guys need a passing QB and WRs that can run routes and catch, and a line that doesn’t only run block…and a running back that can pass block…before you convert to that offense? Didn’t the guy you all hated try to do this and he was fired pretty quickly? I say go for it! Sounds like a great hire!

️ Southern abandoning the option. We might be able to keep Bo for a long time.

Hes still getting his buyout from USC so theoretically we can keep his salary low for 2 years while that $3.8M per year is being paid and then bump him up when it gets to that point.

Not sure that is how it is being done, but that's how I would do it.

he had 2 full years left on his contract after this season. so we get him at 3 years while USC foots the bill. You figure after that if the program is trending upward, he will likely be gone after 3 or 4 years because a p5 school came calling, or because he sucks and we fired him.

No he won t and shouldn’t be given 4-5 years. In this transfer portal age he needs to at a minimum make a bowl next year. He will be paid somewhere in the 1-1.5 mil per year
