Nope. Who has better facilities and finances? Who has the better sports teams overall? Southern Miss was the choice, but had they opted to stay in CUSA, Liberty was next up.

That would be a NO. USM was coming all along. The Sun Belt wanted to move South Alabama and Troy to the West for all sports. That left three openings in the East and the SBC, to its credit, added JMU, MU and ODU.

If Southern Miss said no (and this will surprise some on this board), Louisiana Tech was next up.

Liberty was never a pimple on the SBCs butt.

And that was not going to happen. We wanted out of CUSA ASAP.

I don't think many of our new mates understand how bad it got..

We had fans that was politicking for us to drop football or drop to FCS to get out of CUSA.

Not any actual, serious ones.

This guy has been told 100 million times on here and on Twitter the reasons Liberty has constantly been turned down until a conference got really desperate but he just continues talking about their facilities, finances, and sports. No one thinks Liberty is lacking in those areas. It's that it's an online diploma mill that constantly throws itself in to politics and was founded by a very polarizing figure who wanted to avoid desegregation. If you don't mind all that, ok. But those are the reasons they've never gotten an FBS conference invite until CUSA got really desperate. Arguing where you rank because you have better facilities and sports than others is nearly irrelevant.

Just be thankful The Belt didn’t take them.

That was the first time, before Liberty was established at FBS. Some of those teams that voted against Liberty the Flames went on to beat on the football field.

And yet ULM beat Liberty last year after "established" last year even with way more resources.

If you believe what some of the Tech fans have said, they were on the AAC radar or were told that because the AAC wanted to stop the MWC from invading Texas...

Yep. More than a few were beyond certain they were going to the AAC. I’m just as certain they were never seriously considered there, than we considered Liberty here.

I'll bet the SBC would've invited "TV Listings" before Liberty. From everything I have heard, Liberty was never a serious factor/consideration.
