It also pretty much guarantees divisions in the 2022-23 season, it just makes too much sense not to.
Plus, great mascot. Future battles between the Dragons and the Camels will be legendary.
Press releases are very focused on television markets as we add schools. Campbell brings in the Raleigh NC market. My bet is the CAA looks to "bring in" the Charlotte tv market and Winthrop out of the Big South makes the most sense. That would complete the southern division of the CAA. The north could add a school in a big tv market with football and that would complete the expansion to 16.
If the CAA brings in the Charlotte market that would cover the four biggest tv markets in North Carolina with Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro and Wilmington.

it doesn't seem like a bad idea to build your brand in a basketball-centric area. if you're looking for college basketball but can't afford to see an acc game...we can be your choice. programs need to have at least a decent reputation though. do people go to campbell or nc a & t games? it seems like elon could get a decent turnout with a good team.
i'm either going to retire into philly or north carolina. i lived in jacksonville, nc for 4 years and we made a trip back down there in may. great state with cool cities, mountain areas, beaches, college sports, and the home of nascar.

RE: CAA Realignment
Campbell does nothing for the northern teams, but seems like a fine get for the southern teams. Pulling from the SoCon was always going to be tougher than the big south. This gives another NC teams to pair with down there. Not a great addition for academics, but this seems like a smart athletics move. Campbell is on the upswing and spending money. So it makes sense.

RE: CAA Realignment
To me it indirectly helps the northern teams in that it secures Towson as a northern member, which I was always hopeful of. We have a nice, clearly defined division now.

Not a good start as A&T has fired their head coach. They already had a steep hill to climb, firing the basketball coach months before the their inaugural season isnt good. Hope the CAA can spin positives out of it.

RE: CAA Realignment
Many schools have had an issue in their past, the timing of joining a new league is just awful timing.
