What's the hold-up over Liberty. They are insignificant.

Opinions of Liberty vary greatly on the board and any thread discussing Liberty will go off the rails. So in an effort to not derail this one, let's end this Liberty conversation here. Just go through old topics and you'll find enough about Liberty.

1. Even though none of the new teams will officially be members, you guys are free to post here all you want. This includes starting game/discussion threads for your own games here if you so desire. If the game is televised or streamed, please put where so others can watch. All 4 new members can start game threads beginning with this weeks games

2. Moderation: Please remember that all team forums are moderated differently, while we are fairly lax here, we ask that anyone avoid the typical things that cause problems here: 1. Discussion of Liberty in general. 2. Poking fun at names of other Member schools, 3. Taking threads wildly off topic. Remember, what may not be a rule on your own team site (specifically JMU or ODU) might be a rule here. Don't worry though, we're going to give a lot of leeway as mods for a while until everyone gets used to each other.

3: So when do boards get transferred over? The answer to this is complicated. Team boards who are on site are allowed to decide amongst themselves when they want GTS to move their forum over here. I expect ODU to choose to wait since the CUSA forum is active. JMU will be left up to their mods. Since they don't have an active conference forum over there, they could move early if they wanted. Individual mods on the CUSA forum due to move over will not move until 2023 so the CUSA board can maintain a mod presence (their entire mod staff minus a UTEP fan is leaving

4. SBC Mod additions: Needless to say, if the board continues to stay active, we will likely start a process to elect a new mod to join our team. Until that time, expect some community policing. Mods of our new members are welcome to take action against threads over here that violate CSN's rules.

Again, welcome to all our new members. We hope you find a great home here, and happy posting!

Will the Marshall swimmer thread be moved over?

We're going to put that behind a paywall so that we can finance our entrance fees.
04-cheers

I've gotten to referring to members in short hand, but I might have some issues with the newbies

South: South Alabama
Louisiana: ULL
Monroe: ULM
Southern: GS
Texas State
Troy
State: GSU
AState Arkansas State
App: App State
Coastal: Coastal Carolina
UALR: Little Rock
Arlington: UTA

We've got some issues with the newbies though:

Southern no longer works for anyone because it could mean Georgia Southern or Southern Miss. Marshall has no short hand outside of maybe Herd. Old Dominion, I don't think they'd appreciate being called "Old" or "Dominion" So they stick with ODU. James Madison, well...I can't exactly call them "James" Can I?

Lol. Well I'll let the USM fans speak for it, but after sharing a conference with them for 7 years or whatever, I have never heard them referred to as Southern. So if you say Southern I will assume it's the Georgia one. I've referred to Marshall as MU in shorthand on the boards, they don't seem to have a problem with it (better than Marsha or Mars). And yes just call them James, perfectly acceptable.

Southern Miss or USM are the most commonly used names. Southern is still used by some, and both basketball and baseball teams have an alternate home uniform with “Southern” across the front. But there are some that think of Southern as a SWAC school in Baton Rouge, and others that use Southern as more of a derogatory term (mostly Ole Miss and Miss State fans, but I digress). Using the first two names should cut down on the confusion, though.

Yeah, ruined it twice in a row there my little appy friend. The last time in an embarrassing way, lol. And it’ll soon be 3 in a row if we both do what needs to be done.

Hey Herd, I can tell you from the USM 247 board, when we were sure we were SBC bound we were all pulling for Marshall to jump ship with us. Because of the distance we don’t play often but your fans always traveled better than Schools that were only a few hours away. I have never traveled to a game at your place but I will be at the next one. In the future, if more teams were added I would hope for ECU and Tulane. ECU has hard core fans and Tulane has New Orleans.

I beleive that we should be "Old Dominion" whenever we're branded and ODU as an acceptable alternate if they really can't fit it all in there. "Old Domin.", "Old Dom.", O. Dominion" all are just annoying, at least to me. IDK where the rest of the Monarch faithful stand haha

Back in the 90s Home Team Sports (predecessor to CSN Washington) was advertising a Metro game beween VCU and Southern Miss, but they used SMU instead of USM. I was like "oh God, please tell me the voiceover guy knows enough not to ...

... then, VCU hits the road in a Metro showdown at Southern Methodist

That was our thinking. We always figured Ole Miss didn't want us referred to anything similar to their nickname. That was back when we played quite a few ESPN weeknight games (mostly Thursdays). It will be nice to be back there again soon.

After the 2003 title, he had four down (for him) years compared to winning 4 titles in 8 years of CUSA play. College football was evolving toward the spread offense and Bower was a grind-it-out, I-back, possession type of coach and showed no signs of changing that.

He fired a couple of assistants after the 1999 season, saying "9-3 isn't good enough at Southern Miss." But it seemed no matter who his OC was over his career, the offense looked the same. After the 2007 season- the final home game was vs Arkansas State and there were fewer than 10,000 fans in attendance, after years of relatively strong crowds- the AD at the time, Richard Giannini, got backing from some prominent supporters who wanted to see Bower evolve towards the spread that was becoming prominent. Giannini told Bower (and these are two guys with no love lost between them) that he needed to make changes on his coaching staff to evolve. Bower refused, despite his history of cutting loose assistants. Giannini then told him to resign or be terminated. Bower resigned. At least that's the way it was told to me. Others may provide more color.

It was almost a mathematical impossibility for AState to lose it. I suspect that was a big factor in choosing to go ahead and award it.
