What we need to know about MAC bowls.

To protect teams the MAC has a way of pooling the monies and expenses. Why?

One bowl is in Boise which will draw few MAC fans. Another in the Bahamas which might draw say 500 MAC fans. Another, QL, which may draw 10k, 20k or even 30k MAC fans.

So does the team going to Detroit get a bounty (minimal expenses) while the others take a financial bath?

Also, the MAC uses the bowl payouts to guarantee ticket sales even though a participant might only buy say a thousand or two. This is how we have been able to add more and more bowls. The MAC is guaranteeing that the bowl doesn't take a financial bath if a MAC team only buys 500 or 1k tickets.

I consider bowl games more of a reward for a good season than a financial win.

By all means I agree with that! Those P5 schools are highly likely to have some stars that choose to sit out and the national exposure of the game is far greater. I still remember the "Bear" from ESPN talking about players not taking the bowl game seriously. He said "did you see that game between Georgia State and Eastern Michigan? Nobody will tell me those players left anything on the field".

Thus lets play a P5 school if possible.

I am not attending any bowl game for a 6-6 or 7-5 team with a defense like ours. Just embarrassing.

God I hope they don't wind up in Idaho. Boise in December does not sound like fun. An outdoor stadium in Boise in December does not sound like fun. Boise State having the home-field advantage in an outdoor stadium in Boise in December does not sound like fun.

For sure I was not going to a bowl if we finished 6-6 on a three game losing streak . However, last night’s win has piqued my interest again. If we go 8-4 I’m going to the bowl game. If we finish 7-5 I would probably go but depends on location. I hope we go to the quick lane bowl. I just think our passing offense would thrive indoors on artificial grass.

a point i made on another slide was that i want an opponent with a good offense and bad defense. if im going to watch an EMU bowl game id at least like it to be a shoot out.
