No it is just pure hate between the two. But both dam well respect each other.

Too true. That and they seem to have like 4 other rivals. At this rate USA is the closest thing we have to a rival here.

If only we couldve gotten UTSA.... oh well, I'm still very much looking forward to this new SBC.

Give it a break Drew. If you're going to make a general statement like that about everyone hating App, you need to throw Georgia Southern in as well. They hate us because we take over every single thread with our rivalry lol. Hey, that's just part of the heat. Georgia Southern and App definitely have the most heated rivalry in the SBC. Also, App and Coastal fans don't really hate each other at this point. A lot of people in the conference including App fans are annoyed with Coastal's arrogance that they've shown after they won the East in a Covid year and them basically jumping ship for the conference championship game in a game most people felt they would have lost didn't help things.

JMU and Marahall has all the makings of a rivalry

GSouthern Id say we just respected the hell out of them in their FCS days

Everyone hates whoever is currently the top team in the conference.

But currently, I would say more hate Coastal/App, than UL.

From the ODU perspective. We:

* Are frenemies with JMU, play them in all sports and have hated them the entire time (**** YOU KENT CULUKO)
* Apparently are friends-to-the-end with Marshall (thanks for getting us in, guys! Let's remerge our states!)
* Respect App but want to get within 30 points of them in the second half some day. We can always take it out on them in hoops.
* Had great shitposting wars with Georgia Southern when we crossed paths in our two FCS playoff appearances, so looking forward to a revival there
* Joined JMU in making fun of Georgia State for their football attendance while we were all in the CAA, calling them Fake GSU. One of the CUSA mods (a Middle Tennessee poster, I think) very early in our time there got mad at me for using Fake GSU in a post, saying it was disrespectful. Presuming that won't be a problem here?
* Played Coastal the one time in the FCS playoffs; as with most of our games back then, we won because we scored 1,000 points to our opponents' 950. I know Virginia Beach wishes it was Myrtle Beach and we have some shared beach music history.
* Obviously was in CUSA with Southern Miss; don't think there was any real animosity between us, usually just self loathing that we weren't as good as we thought we should have been.
* Had that old-school tie to South Alabama in the big municipal arena era of the Belt; I remember our radio guy called them South Al all the time. Do people call you that, or was our PBP guy just being doofy?
* Will get to know the rest of you in the years to come. I always had a soft spot for Louisiana because you produced Ron Guidry, my mom's favorite baseball player and whose autobiography was the first non-children's book that I read on my own. The big takeaways from it were that Billy Martin was insane, Reggie Jackson was an ass, everyone loved Thurman Munson, and Kinston, N.C. is a shithole.

Maybe "bro" as in step-brothers, not necessarily as in boys. They're goat humpers, but damnit, they are OUR goat humpers.

The hate and respect are both fairly high, but I think we both realize our rivalry has actually helped better both of our teams. Neither of us can stand the thought of losing to or getting left behind each other.

And that's why GS are fans are so damn salty right now. This is the longest conference championship drought in our history, and App is on a tear. GS will be back, and when we are, the first ever top 25 App vs top 25 GS game will absolutely blow the freaking roof off any stadium. Some of the best game day atmosphere in the sport.

Southern Miss and Marshall had a great Rivalry going in CUSA until the league shifted us over to the West Divison. USM is 8-6 against Marshall but the games Marshall won they blew us out.

Coastal probably would like to settle a score with us for a playoff loss they suffered.

Marshall had a pretty good rivalry with App back in the day. From the last couple years, that rivalry seems to still have a lot of heat to it
We have a little history with Georgia Southern.
We had a lot of good games with USM, wasn't as intense as the others I mentioned

Just by browsing the boards, looks like it's going to be JMU vs everyone being the new kid on the FBS block
