Dune
Who watched it? Did you see the original? How do you think the new one stacks up against the old one?

I watched it last night and it's the best movie I've seen in quite a while. I loved it! And was pretty sure it was going to suck.

After reading the Dune series way back when, I was excited as hell when they announced the release of the Dune movie. I was hugely disappointed. So I was all set to be let down once again. No such thing. It was fantastic.

Queued up to watch this afternoon if I get off work or in the morning while I won't be disturbed. Am really looking forward to seeing it.

huh. I will watch it now that you said that. The first Dune was disappointing to say the least.

Even the settings and the cinematography were boring

This one is 2 parts? so this is just the first "new" one?

The original crammed everything into one film

This is a high quality production in almost every aspect. I may be over-reacting because I am such a huge fan of the book series but I don't think so.

That's one of the things I like about this one. They cover a lot in 2.5 hours but they didn't try to cover it all.

Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert were 'Special Consultants' on the movie, and said this one would blow the old one away. They, of course, have been writing all the sequels and prequels. KJA is a great guy, and I'm very happy to hear the movie is good.

It did not disappoint at all. I guess I'm going to have to reread the series.

I’m not a fan of Dune, but I thought this was pretty good.

My only complaint was it ended when it started getting good

Anyone know how long until part two?

The first series is still a mess.

RE: Dune
I know nothing about the books - just what I saw with the first one, which was a joke.
Watched this one last night and thought it was REALLY good.
At least as good as any of the recent Star Wars series.
The ending was a bit unsatisfying though - and I understand it was "Part 1".

I endured Dune and got halfway through Dune Messiah before quitting. The sequels and prequels are a different matter.
