Locate 2 more in the South east... South Caroline State? maybe an FCS from Tennessee? Anyone between Virginia and Florida?

It depends on whose brave. Kennesaw State? Furman?

Don't know.

BTW, your avatar of the AAC schools is missing Wichita State. Is that an oversight?

Focused on football.

So I guess you wouldn't miss the best basketball program in your new conference.

There is about a 0% chance they’ll be there in 2023 anyway.

They won't, 2023 is a key focal point, especially if the new 12 team playoff system is adopted.

I would, but I was never good at BB so I enjoy the sports that I personally excelled in, Football, Soccer, Baseball, and Wrestling.

Fair enough. You'll probably get called out on it more sternly on the AAC board.

Most likely!

12-team playoff will likely get tabled with the realignment and potential death of an FBS conference. NCAA will need to see if there's enough support for it without Judy MacLeod's vote.

Would Liberty be okay joining Conference USA?

If ODU stayed even if Marshall and Southern Miss didn't, I guess the league might survive? You'd likely still need New Mexico State all-sports and hope maybe Missouri State is interested?

Good call on Missouri State... Get rid of Judy, Most folks here are doing a better job of keeping the conference alive.

Those comments are a little dated--- but like the other poster said they were probably aware of those developments when commenting.

From the Virginian Pilot

Makes it sound like ODU wants to stay in CUSA and bring in JMU and Liberty as first choice.

“ODU president Brian O. Hemphill released a statement this week saying the school was “actively engaged in a number of conversations to ensure the long-term viability and attractiveness of C-USA for ODU.”
Sources have confirmed that C-USA is considering Liberty and James Madison for membership, which would bring the total number of football programs in the league to 10 with a more regionalized membership.“

Hemphill's statement came out earlier in the week before the Sunbelt Scenario was announced. ODU officials keep their intentions very close and have very few leaks.

You think the Sunbelt scenario was unknown to ODU at this point?

The SBC probably wasn't as much on the table as it is now. According to reports, the SBC only voted to allow a possible expansion to 14 teams this week. I believe after Hemphill's statement.

Either way, Hemphill's statement was worded very carefully. It doesn't tie us to CUSA, or say we won't jump ship. It says he's tracking activity. Engaged in talks. And optimistic about creating an "attractive" regional CUSA.

Nothing was a promise or a commitment to CUSA, just an assurance we are exploring avenues with it

Southern Miss needs to be in a conference with Tulane, UAB, and La Tech, those schools love them. Heck, you can add the Ragin' Cajuns to that list.

Don't lose sight of the prize. College football should not be just about markets or won/lost records, it should be about what schools your fans enjoy playing. If one school runs the table, more power to them.

Hmm, no mention of UMass. Seems ODU had conversations with UMass a few years back about an eastern conference. If the CUSA 8 stay together, this would be pretty close.

RE: Two scenarios for CUSA
If Liberty and JMU are added to CUSA then Marshall/WKU/ODU will also stay.

So Miss is leaving no matter what which is fine. It makes sense for them. They want to join the SBC for the same reasons we all want a mid-atlantic conference, nothing wrong with that, but I hope Marshall and So Miss can continue to play OOC.

CUSA would end up looking like this:

Marshall
WKU
MTSU
ODU
FIU
JMU
Liberty

UTEP (will eventually end up in the MWC)
La Tech (possibly goes to SBC with So Miss? No idea just curious.)

If this ends up happening then I hope we prioritize basketball with any other additions. This could end up being a 2 bid basketball conference with only 10 teams.
