Sooo, I got bored and created a scheduling Matrix for how this would work.

2023

Arkansas State: vs Marshall, @ GS
Marshall: @ AState, vs USM
JMU: @ ULM, vs ULL
GS: @ USM, vs AState
ULM: vs JMU, @ ODU
USM: vs GS, @ Marshall
ODU: @ ULL, vs ULM
Coastal: @ Texas State, vs Troy
ULL: vs ODU, @ JMU
Texas State: vs Coastal, @ App
App: @ USA, vs Texas State
GSU: @ Troy, vs USA
USA: vs App, @ GSU
Troy: vs GSU, @ Coastal

2024

Arkansas State: @ JMU, vs ODU
Marshall: @ Troy, vs ULL
JMU: vs AState, @ USM
GS: @ ULL, vs USA
ULM: vs App, @ GSU
USM: @ Coastal, vs JMU
ODU: @ AState, vs Texas State
Coastal: vs USM, @ USA
ULL: vs GS, @ Marshall
Texas State: vs GSU, @ ODU
App: @ ULM, vs Troy
GSU: @ Texas State, vs ULM
USA: @ GS, vs Coastal
Troy: vs Marshall. @ App

2025

Arkansas State: vs App, @ GSU
Marshall @ ULM, vs Texas State
JMU: @ Troy, vs USA
GS: @ Texas State, vs Troy
ULM: vs Marshall, @ Coastal
USM: vs GSU, @ ODU
ODU: @ USA, vs USM
Coastal: @ ULL, vs ULM
ULL: vs Coastal, @ App
Texas State: vs GS, @ Marshall
App: @ AState, vs ULL
GSU: @ USM, vs AState
USA: vs ODU, @ JMU
Troy: vs JMU, @ GS

2026

Arkansas State: vs CCU, @ Marshall
Marshall: @ USA, vs AState
JMU: @ TX ST vs ULM
GS: @ ULM vs USM
ULM: vs GS @ JMU
USM: vs App @ GS
ODU: @ Troy vs ULL
Coastal: @ AState vs TexasState
ULL: vs GSU @ ODU
Texas State: vs JMU @ Coastal
App: @ USM vs USA
GSU: @ ULL vs Troy
USA: vs Marshall @ App
Troy: vs ODU @ GSU

2027 would continue the rotation with one of the 2023 opponents and one 2024 opponent and so on and so forth. Under this plan, you would play each opponent every 3-4 years, meaning you would host every team in the conference once over a 6-7 year period.

Not ideal, but better than nothing

Hopefully we would transition to 9 conference games per season. Maybe not in 2023 but by like 2025 or so.

Unlikely, most of us need at least one Money game per year to help with the Bills. Playing 9 league games with a money game means its possible teams might not get 6 home games in a season...

I like playing two new cross division teams each year to keep us playing each other as often as possible.

That should be be a problem with an FCS home game plus a G5 H&H.

It’d be some work to time up those H&H with the years when your getting 4 or 5 home games from the conference. We’ve got long term H&H with ECU & VT already, usually Hampton or Norfolk St FCS game and either another G5 H&H (Buffalo, Bowling Green & Army signed as of now) or a buy game (just USCe as of now I think). Hard to see 9 games happening anytime soon.

At least the divisions keep the rivalries you would want to see together.

I'll admit I hate losing Georgia Southern's game each season but there is no way having any protected rivalry would be good for conference play. Seems like App and stAte would like to see each other a lot since their admin's are close.

I know we won't and we shouldn't but I wonder what cross-divisional locked games *could be*...

But there might not be any FCS teams left to schedule once CUSA’s done calling them all up.

We've had this discussion before, but there are only a few cross division rivalries in the Belt. App/AState and App/UL both have potential as does Coastal/UL but all of those rely on both teams being good, something that as we have seen with AState, isn't currently possible.

In the end nobody hates ULM or Texas State....so there's no obvious rival.

Not a fan of the permanent cross over because it would limit playing the other teams to once every 7 years, but I think JMU/TxST 'Withers Bowl' would make sense if we had to have one. 04-cheers

Agreed. It was just a thought exercise. 04-cheers

I'm just glad Troy/A-State will get to play yearly now. I love to hate the Red Wolves.

Would the Sun Belt consider going to 9 conference games if the media revenue was increased enough to offset the need for money games.

Got no hate for JMU over the Withers hire.

I hate US for the Withers hire . . .

No doubt. LSU and Florida fans are also lukewarm at best with their arrangement. A&M fans on the other hand couldn't be happier.

That’s a big IF and one I don’t see happening. As of now no changes to the number of league games. As long as the SEC and AAC play 4 OOC games I think it’s status quo for us.

I doubt 9 conference games get any traction. You need to try to have cross division teams play each other as frequently as possible. Rotate cross division games each year
